There's a lot of noise outside right now... Got one of these flying around

It's moved on now, but it was here for what seemed like ages.

Maybe I should keep my head down.... as a Brit I could be used for target practice!

Could be one of ours, army has a few stashed just down the road from me.

Probably using it's radar to track targets, altough they usually hide behind hills/trees for that.

This one was buzzing around at about 500 feet, I'd guess. Low enough anyway! It's a scary looking thing at the best of times  :shock:  :lol:

In the early 90's we put a prototype target designation laser into one of those beasts. The Apache was used as a stable platform to shine an IR laser at targets from some miles away. Meanwhile laser guided bombs from other aircraft homed in on the 'bright spot'- resulting in accurate hits. The trials went well (as is evidenced in military history). Sadly a US company (Northrop Grumman) got to make the production laser systems. BAE Systems & GEC Marconi also had similar laser guided air munitions projects which saw action as early as the Falklands War.

I'll have you know we live at the edge of a valley..... not as in Welsh style, but a valley none the less  :lol: Oh, and I've got a coral bark maple in my back garden.... does that count?? Not sure you could hide an Apache behind it though. Not even the North American variety :lol:

No.... I'm on the land side... creating training for the new armoured engineer vehicle.

They're sturdier than Hawks... but they don't fly nearly so well... and the landings can be a bit spectacular!  :lol:

It's the new DVLA drivers, incase the legislation comes through for them to enter private land to get at untaxed cars... (but I thought they said they'd crush untaxed cars... not blow them up?)

One of those flew beside me for about 30 miles up the A1 a few weeks ago. I waved, he waved back!!!!. Mind you these are faster.[/img]

I have spent many a unhappy time removing the sodding gear boxs and packs from them CETS or coffins should i say :roll:  :roll:  on another note this is a new toy we got at work.

Mock ye not! There is a hill in Cromer! There is also a Norfolk Mountain Rescue Team! Admittedly, they are not very busy, so spend a lot of time drinking.

Nope... new built throughout... obviously can't say much about it... but it is... as it's name suggests... a capable wee beastie!

Yes... and amazingly smooth!

Went from Arbroath (Barrybuddon) to Fife (Cultybraggan) in one once... didn't even notice it take off till it tilted on it's side and roared away!

The loadies were allowing some of the female TA soldiers to sit on the lowered ramp in a harness connected to the roof... letting their legs flap in the slipstream at however many thousand feet we were flying.

One of the loud blokes insisted on having a go... the loadies strapped him in and he insisted on standing on the lip of the ramp... leaning out... with slack on the harness...

The loadies echanged a look and one picked up a spare harness... and waved the hook end in his face... never seen anyone go so white so fast before! He took off and sprinted up the cargo area... till he ran out of slack in the strop... at which point he ended up in mid air and then on his... erm... "jacksie"!!!

Funniest thing ever!
