hi all. just a quick question really. i want to confirm in my own mind on what i should do with my engine. i have just had the rocker cover off and all the valves are sitting nice and level. so now know that its just bent rods and a new cam belt. i have removed the turbo ad the alti , so what would a 200 tdi disco engine like this be worth? i am trying to decide on strip it and sell it in bits or sell it in one lump with diesel lump etc.
any idea;s welcomed

If the engine runs it's worth the most, so if you keep it running 'till you sell it that's the best, otherwise unless you sell it to someone who will take your word it's ok then it's just a pile of bits.
That said, have you seen how much a 200TDi head still costs

nowt m8....the cam belt snapped :( :(
i think i might just break it to be honest....the engine that is...loads still left on the main body though

just repair it! cheap enough!

i have sat and worked out that it will actulay be worth more in bits

Sadly true, I missed the bit about the cam belt having gone already :? so I guess braking it into the major components is the way to go, plus with it having had a problem I for one would like to see inside it anyway.

Push rods are about £3 each and you might not need to replace all of them. A timing belt and tensioner is only about £50, so it won't cost that much to fix. A reasonable 200TDi engine is worth £300 or more.

i had my 300tdi throw its belt at 80mph+ shaterd the cam so i had this replaced with the push rods only for the cam followers to collapse 2 weeks latern so as you have already part stripped it lift the head and check these aswell
