Title: GKN Overdrive - Help Needed
Post by: cotefarmboy on November 05, 2007, 17:47:19
Left a deposit on a 300 TDi 90 today, cracking condition and runs like a
dream. It has a GKN overdrive fitted (electric operation via gearknob
switch) the seller reckons it cost over a grand (seems to be right from LRO
etc) but I have no experience of these devices. Will it be reliable? Does it
make the car more or less attractive? If it fails will I still have normal
gears?

Help appreciated.

Andy

If it fails, there will be no effect on the transfer box, so all gears will remain. As long as you use the right oil and stick to servicing, then you should have no major problems.

http://www.qtservices.co.uk/ Fitted mine and are a good source of help.

Not sure if the add desireability to the vehicle, but they do improve fuel economy and reduce noise when driving (can't be engaged below 30mph).

These are excellent bits of kit.  If it fails you will still have drive.

Devon 4x4 (http://www.devon4x4.com/shop.php?mode=productview&product=134&sitelang=&cat=8&subcat=35/url) supply & fit them.  If you have any problems I am sure they can help.

They are super bits of kit.
Having the option to the split gears in 3rd, 4th and 5th is great.
Makes towing a pleasure and hills become no problem.
And of course the fuel economy due to lower revs in 5th
As mentioned in the previous post, we supply, fit, repair and carry every known replacable part for GKN overdrives.
