Just watched up to chapter 16 of ‘A 4x4 is Born’ (rest of chapters tomorrow). Was wondering how much something like that would of cost to build?
Just kept thinking, “should check mine, wonder if mine has that, must get one of thoseâ€!
Was that really his own workshop!!!!

I got the DVD's lol
-
Me too, he doesn't seem to be too worried about cost and has all the right tools, just like me.......................NOT!!!
-
he has the same thing though with any "... is born" doesnt mention budget/money etc so you cant get a grip on how expensive it would be if you fancied doing it yourself
besides not many people have a big shed full of tools at hand either
-
If he charges as much as our vet he won't need to worry about money when building his toys!
Not envious honest.
-
Didn't he just get the car, instead of being paid?
But his workshop was set up for the 'Is born' series.
He has been offering a service, where you can have your car rebuilt and film for tv, but the costs were very high.

I have the boxed set of allmost all of them (I think the MG was later)
You can see that as the "series ies" progressed form A car is born (the Sumo Cobar) he got more and more kit.
I really like the series and the fact that in the restorations he does a lot of refurbishmnet rather than everything new, although her really really strips things down way beyond most people.
I really like the way that he really cares about the finsih and is a genuine bloke instead of a dumb blonde presenter with a grin. It is a shame he does not do the budget more, but I think on other series he has shown the budget (possibly the harley bike)
ITs partly his fault I bought my Series III.

The first one - A car is born-the cobra replica, was filmed at the Pilgrim factory in Small Dole, he refered to it as his garage but it wasn't  . Apparently Mark would film himself building say, one corner, and the guys from the pilgrim factory would build the other three  .

 its his fault that I think I can do anything with a spanner.....

I had a really long chat (about an hour) with Mark Evans at London to Brighton 2004
He claimed that the whole thing is payed for by himself but there is commercial help in the form of subtle advertising and product placement.
The workshop is in Dunsfold, the very same place that they film Top Gear.
He was a really nice guy and it was so good that he spared so much time to chat with the wet enthusiasts

PS thats me chatting to him when he arrived in Brighton

Yes, I did notice the 'Product Placement'!!!

Yes, I did notice the 'Product Placement'!!!
It was hard to miss
The advertising and promotion for Scrap Iron is neverending
It brought Ashcroft Transmissions to the attention of the masses
Just to name a couple

Just finished watching the rest of ‘A 4x4 is Born’.
Hat’s off to the guy, he’s certainly built a fantastic machine!!! =D> =D> =D> =D>

has he??
with no understanding of how most of it worked...i nearly fell off the settee shouting when he was on the ramp....and didnt know why the tryes were fouling.
yes it was nicely put together but the things that make it perform were just bolt on kit. no knowlegde required to spend a fortune...sorry
-
im with bully
its great if you have the money to just bolt kits on but i think more satisfying if you can build it all urself
