Quick one for you guys. Driving along and engine almost stalls, seems like fuel starvation or something. Pull over, engine idles normally, but tries to stall what pedal is pressed quickly.
What could cause fuel starvation, and what can I check this weekend (filters etc)? :-k :-k :-k :-k

Diesel or petrol ?
If it's diesel, could be air in system or blocked fuel filter or water in fuel filter.
If its petrol God knows if you have mega elecktrickery someone will be along soon !

Petrol 1986 3.5 Ltr V8 (flapper).

dont do v8's, but fuel pump's ?
blocked pick up in tank ?

if you nock it off,leave for 10 mins or so and try again is it fine ?
that would say something is obstructing in the tank

Are the fuel lines far enough away from heat..... could be fuel vapourising in the fuel pipe......

Just looking at a downloaded workshop manual, and the fuel pump seems to have a filter on the bottom. What’s the procedure in removing this (sod’s law I filled the tank up this morning), to have a look?

is it on the 90 ?
remove the drivers seat and you can gain access to the tank
(now i will be stand to be corrected here as my v8 knowlage is very limited to only gm engines as i work with them [!Expletive Deleted!] everyday :roll:
and ther set-up is completely different to a car ect as its a marine version of a v8 :lol: (
now, if you remove the pick up from the tank, youll be able to check its clear
and afink theres a low pressure pump in the tank :? but not sure :lol:

Yep its on the 90. So is it a case of just removeing and lifting the pump?
With cig in mouth, using a lighter to see!!!!!!! (just joking, don't smoke) :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

could also be a well manky air filter, they will let engine idle yet die a death on throttle demand and is easiest to check be removing it and go for a run.

Managed to craw back along the main road today at a steady 10mph in first gear with the pedal right down, and engine spluttering away! Sods law, as soon as I got home, the revs suddenly picked up, and it was ok!!!
Definitely sounds like fuel starvation?

Spent the day playing with the Land Rover.
1) Checked fuel pump filter, looked clear, no sediment as almost new fuel tank.
2) Check breather pipe, all clear.
3) Checked air filter, all clear.
Can only think that the problem is with the fuel filter, assuming this is it (pic)? :? :? :? :?

Have you tried running it with choke on full?

Here's daft one to try (and you'll have to bear with me here).
Is the problem more apperent after you've just accelerated, backed off, then reapplied the throttle?
If it is, it's your oil that'll be the problem (no kidding!).
There is an unreported phenomenon knwon as 'hydraulic pump up'. It's caused by cunning combination of cheap oil and wear in the hydraulic lifters. It is readily cured by swapping the oil for some decent semi-synthetic oil. I have known people spend months tracking down non-existant, or irrelevant electrical maladies, replace entire ignition systems and play all kinds of games with ECUs, filters and fuel lines, just to find it the oil thats been the problem all along. Unfortunately, despite what some forums will have you beleive, cheap oil and Rover V8s don't mix.
I've been fortunate enough since this to befriend a gent who develops engines at M-Sport. His view is that oil is one of the most significant components in the engine. It would seem he isn't kidding, either!
I'm not saying this is your problem, unless the throttle on, throttle off, throttle on process makes it happen. But, you never know.

After an oil change, new plugs, new fuel filter, new leads, new dizy cap, new rotor arm, I’m starting to think that perhaps the problem lies with the ignition coil?
Had the mixture set from 0.6! to 3.0 just before the MOT, where its been running fine, but occasionally it will play up.
But its still doing its party trick where it will hesitate just after a gear change, looses revs when decelerating (and stalling when stopped), and not revving any higher when pedal is to the metal, just revs half way and sits there blipping!
