Title: it sounds like loud cogs

i know that dont mean much but its the only way i can say it sounds :lol:  :lol:

it only happens when i lock the front hubs,still got every thing,4wd hi,low and all drive to both front wheels,it happend with out 4wd but locked front hubs,

i do know the near side sharft is making cracking sounds,(putting new 1 on 2mo) but got any ideas what it could be :?  :?

Rabbit is doing exactly the same. Front diff pinion bearing has collapsed.

Get under there and swin off the front prob, I'll bet you that its as loose as anything.

when i get hold of the prob its got play init but not anything to worry about :(

if it is the pinion,is it a complete diff change :cry:

I think the general concencus was that its too much of a pig to be worth doing for the price as a s/h diff.

Rabbits has no lateral play at all, however if you grab it and pretend you are bench pressing the car it'll go 'clank' and then drop back when you let go. Try draining your diff and look for bits of swarf in the gunk. I have a feeling I filled the front diff with water and that did for it.

right ive just done that and it dont move,clonk or nothing :shock:  :?

the only thing really is you can hear cogs,what ever else moving when i spin the prob,ive looked at oil and is fine :(  :(
