I was gob smacked the other day to what I saw a 4x4 driver do. It was a nissan crew cab type vehicle.
there was me with 2 bins waiting to push them between 2 parked cars and onto the lorry which was about to come down to me. there was a traffic jam behind the lorry as nobody could over take due to the 3 parked cars. We werent going to be there long.
As the lorry started to pull forward I heard a long blast on a horn. I looked round to see the 4x4 dive off the kerb. Yes, he had gone onto the grass verge and gone past everyone and the lorry. the reason he hooted was due to the verge narrowing very quickly and a telegraph pole being in the way very soon. He didnt hit anything or anyone luckily. If it wasnt for my collegue having to put a bin that had to go back in a certain place he would have been getting into the cab on the verge. I would hate to think what would have happened. My driver didnt see him as they didnt look in the near side mirror due to a verge being there and not expecting any vehicles flying down it.
and we all wonder how us 4x4 drivers get a bad reputation!
the 4x4 must have been doing 30mph at absolute least if not 40mph.
Unbelieveable. Tried to get his reg number but he was too fast.

I am indeed a Refuse and recycling ranger for public open space. (binman in short!)
I know one day I will get hit by someone. when that day is I don't know obviously, but by the way some people drive I know it will be one day!

same here (bin man)
you wouldn't believe (well you might) the stunts some people will go to to get round my lorry, i've had a woman drive up on to the footpath, along the path about 100 yards then squeeze back between parked cars all at about 40mph narrowly avoiding kid's walking to school.
i'm sure the high viz clothing is seen as a target to motorists

The advice I was given when I was a bin man was that if someone is driving where they shouldn't put the bin in front of them and walk away.
