Have recently fitted a winch and split-charge system to the 110. Batteries are red and yellow top Optima for ignition and aux respectively. Dash battery gauge shows good charging and the aux battery gauge shows 14V at normal running revs.
I have the normal 2.5NA alternator and in fairness it looks pretty new. Will it cope or do I need to upgrade to something with more wellie? Truck is for laning and North African expedition use not winch challenges and I have the usual extra lights etc. you would expect for a truck of this spec.
If it needs upgrading is there one which will be a direct swap or is this more complex?

hi yes you could do with an upgrade superwinch advise you use an alternator of at lesat 75 amps.me personally ive got a 80 amp rangerover on mine ther are disco ones that fit that are 80 or 100 130 amp that fit or ford siera or granada ones that are 90 or 100 amp that but some um need the wirring changed its easy the two thick wires need to be joined together and go on the 8 mm post the thin wire goes on 6 mm post. hope this helps :D

i had a poor 35amp on my 110 so i fitted a 120amp of a Scropio mount was good and it has just terminals on teh back so i run a heavy cable back to the battery and just spliced into the tickerler on the old alternator wire kept the pulg on so i can easy change back if required.
wont bore you with actually connectin up wrong first off lol

you will find most 300tdi discos run 100 amps and are a strait foward swap

300 tdi will have multi v belt wont it over the older v belt on his 110?

I have travelled Iceland & Norway with a standard alternator.
I run a 110 200tdi twin optima's (Red & Yellow) on a split charge & a warn XP9.5 Winch. Also have 4x roof spots.
I have never had an issue with charging from the 35amp alternator.
With the expedition you will probably be travelling for long periods which will enable a good charge from the alternator.
If you do upgrade try to keep everything as standard as possible...eg alternator connection...& keep the alternator you have now as a spare  8)
I am sure Trayback Dan is running his competition vehicle on a standard alternator. Twin 8274 winches & twin yellow top optima's in parallel IIRC...send him a PM. 8)

Anyone know how to tell which rating a disco alternator is ? The one on my defender is from a discovery and not sure what output rating it is.
