In order to make the PLAYSTATION 3 more affordable and therefore more accessible to a wider audience, some of the PLAYSTATION 3 system’s functionality has been amended. This includes the removal of PlayStation 2 architecture within PLAYSTATION 3. This is due to a reduced emphasis placed on this feature by later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific games, which will probably number a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas 2007.
So glad i got a 360

Hmm, ok - but Xbox doesnt have Blu Ray DVD capabilities, in fact you have to pay more to get HD DVD!

and the Ps3 looks like a waffle iron ... which is always good :D

I might be wrong, but as I understand it, Japanese spec PS3s have hardware emulation of PS2, and European-spec ones have software PS2 emulation which doesn't work as well, because it's cheaper to build them that way.

But how many film companies are actually going the blu-ray way :!: :!: :!: you may well end up needing a hd dvd player after all. I meant "im glad i got the 360" co's of ability to play standard xbox games aswell as 360 games.
Due to higher costs involved in producing blu-ray (even though the discs have much more storage capabilities), many people feel hd-dvd will become the norm (no totally new manufacturing techniques needed as required by blu ray). Saying that.... seems to be more companies backing blu-ray.... although Toshiba (hd) has more backing power than many of these companies combined.

I was under the impression that the more expensive PS3 can play *some* PS2 games, but the newer, cheaper "budget" model doesn't play *any* PS2 games. Could be wrong however!
