ill get my coat

What car is it on? I'm asking because it soundsl ike you need to stop water splashing the alternator. Either that or the fault could be somewhere else, like an electrical short.

its on a defender 200 tdi, i have been thinking about fabricating some kind of splash gaurd to protect it, an electrical short is a poss as it has a slow drain on the battery,ie if i leave it for a week or so without disconecting battery its totaly dead. thanks for the reply, Iain

Try tapping it with a hammer as sometimes the brushes stick.

your not washing your engine with a de greaser and getting it into the alternator are you?

thanks for the input, the bushes stiking could be the prob as it often repairs itself, and no i dont use degreaser it just happens when i off road in water, cant understand why this happens to my motor, have ordered a 65amp alternator for £67 hope it lasts out. thanks Iain :D
