Title: I'm a clutz
Post by: snezza69 on November 19, 2007, 13:02:54
Hello all, last summer I put a new petrol filler cap on my project.

The good news is I seem to have mislaid the key.  The tank is now empty.  Does anyone know of any tricks for getting the cap off?

I have resigned myself to the fact I will need a new replacement and will make sure I am more careful with the new one.

If you can PM me any suggestions as it would not be a good idea to have the suggestions in an open forum.  I would be much apreciated.

Mark.

Drill a hole in the middle of the lock barrel, smack a screwdriver into the hole hard with a hammer and give it a good twist.  Should unlock, if not just keep using wider drill bits until it works.  Don't drill too deep though or you will end up with a petrol tank full of swarf!

Thanks all, scary just how easy that was!  May need to consider some additional security for when we come back to the UK.  Not gonna pay £1+ a litre for some scroat to help themself.

Any suggestions?
