The irony about this kind of issue is that athough we love a "heads will roll" appraoch, I dont expect that the "government" made a policy decision to do a half assed job. It was just some average person in a job who put a CD in the post instead of the secure post. Even the much used "systematic failure" expression does not always add up. I have and do work with the "government" and they are just normal people in jobs not civil servants like something off yes minister.

The hysteria around any government "mistake" makes us shout "something must be done" every time, governments no one ever then wants to make a decision and everything is massively burocratic and litigious with targets and monitoring comities to make sure it never happens again, but it will because sooner or later there is someone who can put the wrong thing in the wrong box, press the wrong button or put the wrong letter in the wrong envelope.

I really wonder if its wroth getting so upset about.

Something can be done - don't forget the Gov't in their wisdom cut 25k jobs in this Dept and have done so in others as well. Add to that the contracting out of services once done by 'in house' teams and this is the cost of saving money on paper. Not long ago an in house team of messengers would have delivered that CD from door to door but not these days. All so some senir civil servant can get a tick in the box and a nice bonus thank you very much.
