Case was adjourned, if you're thinking of Mereddyd Hughes (the South Yorkshire Chief Constable)
It took place at Wrexham Court, he didn't appear in person
See 'Video Links' on right of page (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/default.stm)

Interesting video, operator just points and checks, so much for 'formed the opinion' and used technology to confirm....

According to one news report I read, this is the third time he has been caught
he definately falls in the 'silly arse' catergory.
-
Hmm, I'd also read that he had two previous speeding convictions.
I read that it was adjourned because he hasn't got a solicitor yet. I can lend him my Yellow Pages, should be a few in there.
I met Mereddyd Hughes a couple of times when he was my Divisional Superintendent about 12 years ago, seemed like a pleasant chap, thought he would have had more sense.

Well it's a 42 day ban and £350 fine http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7128548.stm
Hmmmmm

And a lot of crawling to the Press as he has made himself look a complete cock.
Shame really, as he is a nice chap.
But, live by the sword, die by the sword. All I know is that if that had been me, I'd have probably been suspended, have the book thrown at me by the Courts and by the 'Police police' as well. RHIP.
-
what a suprise he keeps his job
if the relevent people actualy cared about the law and not
kissing ass looking good and making lots of money
then he should have been fired or at the very least fell on his sword
but no another snowt in the trough!!!
im really developing a severe dislike of our (cough) rulers :x
-
I though he had resigned following this :? though at the time I was too busy travelling slower than the speed limit so wasn't listen that carefully.
-
Hang him!

From what I understand, he's resigned from his position as ACPO officer dealing with road safety, not necesarily from his position as Chief Constable.

Hang him!

hey, he's human, we all make mistakes.

this is JOKE.
i thought you loose yer licence for 6 months? (correct me if im wrong) if you go 30mph over a speed limit whitch is exactly what he did. what did he get? a *****g 42 day driving ban.

From my limited knowledge of traffic matters, it is a discretionary disqualification, unless the speed is into 3 figures.
-
Isn't speeding in North wales regarded by the local police as worse than child rape and murder...?

oh. my bad.

The guy should be demoted
-
Nah, he should spend the next 42 days polishing all the speed cameras in South Yorkshire, and when they are sparkling, he should invest in one of these interesting protective covers for index number plates when next on holiday in Wales

Possible, but I doubt he would get fired. If you put the indignation to one side and think of the financial implications.
He is extremely highly trained and it has cost the tax payer a lot of money to train him. Does it make sense then to fire him?
Before I get a barrage of 'sticking up for his own' etc etc, I'm saying that is what may happen. It doesn't mean I agree with it.

I think it's the 42 day ban that's rankles, I'm sure evryone else caught doing 90mph gets a 12 month ban - would be interesting to find out.
Also £350 is probably the sort of amount he loses down the back of his sofa - hardly a hardship.
I think he's got off VERY lightly indeed, plus the tax payers of S Yorks now have to pay for a driver to cart him around for 42 days, how many others would have an employer do that for them after being banned for speeding?
I think he should be put back on front line duties for 42 days - or probably nights around our S Yorks cities. That would be a better use of our tax money plus the money we have already spent training him - as LSP pointed out.
