just took the 90 out and it seems really noisey from the gearbox, you no the wining noise they make as you come of the gas and slow down with the engine braking. well that but really lowd, and even noticable when on the gas driving.
clutch peddle feels a bit off too, went spongy then felt ok again but feels a bit notchy like the clutch fork is going. can a shot clutch make that noise??
not having a good a good day so far..

Could be your thrust bearing on your clutch.
-
i agree with that :?
-
i had the same on my disco found to be the thrust bearing breaking down
-
cheers for the replys
checked the oil today and was ok, im fairly sure the clutch is well on its way so hope its the thrust bearing, its sounding similar to when brake pads are worn out and getting metal to metal on the discs..
-
well its not the clutch, although the fork is on its way..
its the transfer box thats shot, had my local specialist take a look and they said its defo the transfer box :? looking at about £800 supply and fit (recon) plus any clutch parts needed. they did say that the main shaft could be knacked on the gearbox but no way of telling without stripping it out although no sign of it, if thats gone then ill be into another £400
so i think this will have to be a diy job with a second hand box, i just spent £500 on the wifes Disco 2 last week so with crimbo and a baby due in a few weeks i cant justify another big spend on my 90.
ive been told theres lots of differant T/boxes so how can i id what one i have, chassis number?, its a 91 200tdi
i may just try to find a t/box and g/box and change the pair, if anyone heres of a decent pair in the Essex area then let me no.
is it very difficult to change the box's, a mate has a workshop so we can get it inside with plenty of room to work..
cheers

ashcroft do a recon transfer for about £350, easy to fit yourself, and not that much expence to get a garage to do 100 quid ish.
-
my local quoted £240+vat to fit and £350+vat for a recon box +oils and bits and bobs, came out pretty much at £800..
over priced then??
