There is a fuel station opposite me that sells biodeisel. 3 months ago it was 80p then went upto 89p 2 months ago but in the last few days it has been increaser to 110p, not much cheaper than deisel anymore as the local shell garage is selling it at 116.9p.

My mate in Hungary has a cracking still, makes this stuff called "Parlinka" from peaches, its amazing, you can drink it, run your car on it and after a few shots it makes the wife 22 again!
The only down side it the week long hangover and your eyesight takes a hammering!
-
When I was younger we used to buy jam jars full of pocheen from the local Gipsey camp :->
it was like paint thinners (went great with coke)
-
coke what the caffine one :police:
-
my solution was to sell the disco and hop on my trail bike .went over 100 miles today on about a tenners worth of fuel .. got very wet though
-
I've tried that home produced pocheen. What happened to the evening!?
Only had a couple of shot glasses full.
It went down ok.
BUT when it hit bottom, it exploded with a fire I have never, ever, ever had before or since!
I keep thinking about getting the bike out, but to be honest, it only does about 45 mpg. But it is 1500cc!
Didn't want anything too big! [-X
-

You put it well.... I'll keep paying the price until I get fed up, then I'll sell my LC and buy a car less expensive to run :)
-
global warming yeah the burning a whole in most of our pockets effect :-$
-
dont give us <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) about Global warming, its been happening for a long time, why do you think the Ice age Melted :D
-
Scientifically we are still in the ice age. There are still ice caps therefore still an ice age.
This country contributes next to nothing to the global warming equation. Get India and China in line then come and shout at home!
-
Not saying anything as I wont be able to stop moaning . . . . . well until I take it out on the laptop
-
I had to bite my fingers to stop it going any further!! :-#

The way things are going, it'll soon be cheaper to run cars on Vodka than petrol or diesel.
-
When I got the Disco I could fill it from almost dry for about £65.
I did it this morning from the same state for ........................... £90!
But we're not being ******* (put in whatever you want!) in this country.
Oh, By the way I have had the Disco for about 5 or 6 years thats all!
-
Having said all this, petrol is still not as expensive as it was in the early 70's. It went to over £5 a gallon then and with inflation included, that was a lot more than we are paying now.
But it's still *way* too much. With excessive duty and huge fuel company profits it *could* be reduced. But, of course, it won't.
-
Are you sure about over a fiver in the seventies. I don't remember that - over £ 1 yes, a fiver would have been a quarter of my weekly wage, and I don't think I would have been running my Zephyr on a gallon a week.
Cheers
Keith

if the government wernt to busy lining their pockets and shouting alot of rubbish in the h.o.c and did some proper research they may find that No.1 The U.K. produces 652 times less greenhouse gasses than china and india together. and No.2 A cow produces more methane than 4 4x4s. so why do i pay more and more road tax, and yet they cant even afford to maintain the roads. And then fuel tax, its not only the fact we already pay a high amount of tax on goods, we now pay more tax on fuel than anywhere else in the world. Oil prices they say? how can the rest of the world afford not to charge so much then? Think i may loan a Hummer and drive it around Goordan Browns house
-
Found this though, sounds more like it
"March 30 1977
PETROL today went up by 5½p per gallon following Chancellor Healey's
Budget. A survey on new prices facing Bolton motorists showed that
drivers can expect to pay between 79½p to 83½p for a gallon of four
star."
This is a good comparison on a lot of things including fuel, puts things in perspective

I found an article a while ago about this, but I can't locate it now!! Found that it was £4.16 a gallon in 1957 though.

Are you sure they don't mean equivalent to....
In 1957 £5 was probably close to the average weekly wage
-
It doesn't read that way. It was the Suez crisis, don't forget. Like in 1974, the price rocketted, then fell back to more normal levels.
-
Just filled my 90 up for the first time in nearly 2 months. Was pretty appaled at the cost, so I asked the girl behind the till to put a baraclava on and point a gun at me. So I could feel like I was being robbed properly, but she was not overly amused with the idea, neither was the manager!
-
well i think i have finally been priced out from running my landy so will be looking to own a car :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
thats a sad thing to hear, sodding goverment has so much to answer for, get some veggie oil in to it, if its a diesel.
-
OK... first, the history lesson... My first tank of fuel was in July 1979 in a Hilman Imp - at the vast cost of 85p per gallon, I could FILL the tank for a fiver!
Oh happy days!
What we probably need is a whole batch of post-it type notes with the statement "This product was delivered by truck - the prices will have to rise to cover the increased fuel costs..."
If we all had a batch of these and chose a day to wander round the local retail areas - newspaper - came by road... fruit - came by road.... toilet paper - came by road... beer - came by road.... petrol - erm, yes that came by road too!
Few cameras and vote hungry politicos in on the act and hey presto, we have something of an opposition at last.
Further thought to conclude the rant - if they put the time and energy into alternative energy such as Air Source and Ground Source heat pumps, we could all start to update heating systems and drastically reduce our home energy consumption... and let's not even think about the two new coal fired power stations A WEEK that are coming on line in China, adding to the pollution [-X [-X [-X

The problem with the UK as a whole is that we are a nation that moans but we do nothing [-X If we could all get organised we might have a voice like the bleeping green eco lot. I saw one of their web sites today and talk about biast but they are being proactive by always being in the media and using media weapons like spoof parking tickets to try to shame 4x4 owners (not that this approach will work, if I ever catch one at that they will be sorry)
