Has bitten the dusk. Broke down in a traffic queue in the hospital. Where upon the security kept harping on about me not being able to stop there, no help or anything, just 'You cant leave it there' My reply was on the lines that they are free to try and move it themselves.
Anyway, Alty is now kicking out a whopping 0.43V!
Any reason why these seem to be dropping like flies? I have a feeling it died after being dunked.

mine seem to last about more than a year :?
what you running,light,winch

Drop it in a bucket of de-ionised water, clean it out. Should be right as rain, unless you've blown the diode pack - but that's not too expensive :)

I'll take it off, fix it and keep it as a spare. I suspect its brushes again, so fixable quite easilly.
They have all been S/H parts off a veichle of the same age so it makes sense in a way.

Move it to the top of the engine bay?
Look for a G wagon alternator. Alegedly they are fully waterproof, with a snorkel.......(ya gotta love the germans)

I was thinking that, will it fit the PAS mount?

I broke 3 alternators in a month last year. gonna try not to brake any this year by making a shield for it.

Well its soaking in contact cleaner, pully off and diode pack off so I can check bearings. Will repack if need be, then a blast of comformal coating over the back end and work out a way to protect the oputside.
Last three died of:
Regulator pack, brushes went.
Regulator pack melted.
Grumbly bearings leading to it seizing.

Its on.
Old one had eaten the brushes again, GRRRR
