My aircon pump has started to make some funny noises would it be possible to remove it and replace the the belt from a non aircon model. Its on a 1998 3.9 s1. cheers Tim

I looked into this when mine went pop .. it's not quite that easy :(
I can't remember what the issue was ... but something was still in the way.

Hello tim, you should be able to get ahold of a belt to fit if you remove pump, just measure between pulleys in inches and you should be able to get ahold of one that fits.
If you struggle let me know the length and I may be able to help

That was it. It's a serpentine belt :(
It's the way it runs .... you have to fully remove the A\C compressor in order to use the other belt. Not a small job. So make sure it is gas free etc

Was going to leave it off any way could do with seeing a picture of a non aircon v8 . cheers guys
-
I've done it on my 200TDi there was a double pulley wheel in there which I swapped to a single on and got a belt to fit, don't know about 3.9s though
-
On the V8 3.9 it is a single belt for the whole lot :(

You don't just have to reove the pump. The idler on the non-aircon modles runs inside the belt, it has a multi-vee face and obvioulsy the belt is much shorter.

I know about the idler and belt length. Is the non aircon idler tensioner a straigth replacement for the aircon model idler.cheers tim

IIRC the idler bolts in the same place but IIRC it revolves the other way. That said the TDi one does too, but it's basiscly the same castings.
