 yet again i find IN4 have developed a new erm "qwerk" not satisfied with being the slowest disco on the planet lol it seems now that every time i turn on the old gals sidelights some sort of fan is activated at a low speed? it sounds just like the heater motor is blowing and is quite easy to hear from outside the car too...
never noticed it has this happend to anyone else or is IN4 just special
lol cheers keith

try an isolate the source of the noise.. could be alternator bearings starting to give up...
try turning on everything electrical, then with bonnet open use a LONG screwdriver as a stefascope (sp?) - listen to ythe handle to effectively hear things close up.... one of the few useful things my dad taught me!

To eleminate the actual heater motor you could remove the fuse and try the side light test :)
Alternatively remove the alternator drive belt and spin the alternator by hand. You should be able to feel or hear a rough bearing.

Are you sure it doesn't have auto-levelling headlamps? If the levelling device is coming apart, the headlamp will never detect it's level, so it will carry on running the motor until it fuses or breaks.
I'm not sure why this would come on with the sidelights though, unless it's another fault as well :?

not auto leveling no i dont think so anyways its got the switch to adjust the beams manually though since taken the front off to fit my winch bumper it has never worked the headlights seem to fowl something and wont move with the motor any further up but that is a tottaly differant kind of motor noise to this i am hearing now unless like u say its starting to die a death ill spend the weekend fiddling i think
