Aparently you don't

Acording to the workshop manual if it's got play in it it should be returned under warranty, I read that somewhere.

Anyhoo, on topo there's a lilttle screw with a Hex head and a locknut.  Adjust it inwards in small increments and check that the steering doesn't get tight spots anywhere in it's travel.  This screw adjust the "mesh" of the roller wheel and the Worm, it's the only adjustmenbt I'm aware of that doesn't involve a strip down.

When you adjust that screw if doesn't matter where it's pointing but you need to run it lock to lock and check for stiffness, perhaps that's why someone had suggested (and you read) to do it with the wheels turned as the straight ahead position is where all the wear occurs.

As an aside, the way to centre the steering box is disconnect the drag link, run the steering fully to the left then return to the right exactly 2 turns.  Adjust the drag link to suite.
