After taking my rangie for a bit of a drink a couple of weeks back at sibbertoft it sound like the cranks had enough of being where it is!! :lol: I was wondering how difficult it would be to take the 4.2 out of an 1992 LSE im about to break and put it into 1988 3.9.
Is it just a case of plug in and play or uis it a bit more tricky than that?!

You want to swap the engine ECU and wiring loom out too, you'll probably want to fit the lambdas for that. Also the 4.2 might be a bit much for the LT77, or are you auto already?
The 4.2 is based on the 3.9 anyway, so everything should fit. I'd keep the alternator setup on the 4.2 as it's bigger and better. The dizzy is exactly the same part, so keep your old one as a spare. the heads are the same, the block in fact but the crank is obvioulsy different and so are the pistons. Don't know about the rods.
But anyway, it should fit in the same place with a minimum of effort/modification :D

Yes sorry shes on an auto box, forgot that part! :lol: mmm.....! Im not a big fan of electrics! they scare me a little :D The other thing that worries me is that if it ever happend again im i gonna to struggle to source another 4.2.....??

They are getting cheaper all the time, but for now you're better off using the 4.2 you know is good aren't you.
AFAIK the auto boxes are the same, the 4.2 might be valved a little differently, for economy perhaps but if you keep the 3.9 box it's more than up to the job and it might work out a bit faster that way :D
If you want to stay with the 3.9 I'll swap you for the 4.2 :wink:
Anyway, the electrics. I was sure that the post 1990 wring loom swere all the same, but a mate has been looking for the lambda plugs on his and they don't appear to be there, so you might need to swap the loom. As it is the loom doesn't unplug, you either need to remove it form the engine or from the ECU and feed it out through the bulkhead, which might be easier if you don't fancy messing with the mutlitude of plugs on the engine.
Either way you want the ECU from the LSE or an upgraded chip like the RPI Tornado. The LSE ECU will probably be set up for running Lmabdas and I don't know how well they run without them, but if you don't fit them you need to change the Tune Select Resistor near the ECU for the one that's in now.
