Title: LPG costs ??
Post by: CaptainColourful on December 03, 2007, 01:19:52
I am running on LPG to save money, save the planet etc etc.

My question is this.... Why is one place charging 58.9ppl and yet I am still able to get it at 44.9ppl 4 miles away ?
2 weeks ago there was a massive 16p per litre difference !

If petrol/diesel had a 14-16p difference there would be a riot.

Yesterday I called in as I was passing and asked them to explain why they were charging so much... the usual answer was given i.e.  they weren't making much on it, just 3-4p per litre .... yea yea... pull the other one !

Welcome to Rip Off Britain !

They could be telling the truth.  Local independants cant buy it in bulk as much as the likes of morrisons so therefore wont get the same prices.

It is very expensive for the independants and if they are leasing the equipment too then they aren't the ones making the money.

Well, I don't believe the 4p per litre figure, since I used to have a contract with a local LPG supplier, and they used to sell at 35.4p, and revealed that they were buying in bulk at 19.4p plus duty, and it worked out at around 22p.

That was eight years ago, and duty rises on LPG haven't exceeded 10p a litre in that time.

Even if the bulk cost works out at a 32p a litre, the rest is pure profit, don 't believe all the crap they tell you, they want their pound of flesh.

I wasn't sucked in by their excuses as I used to run self service petrol stations years ago so know they are jumping on the bandwagon. All I can say is they won't get my money, I would run on unleaded to the next place (if I ran out of LPG)  just on principal.
They can say "Stand and Deliver" but it will fall on deaf ears...  [-X

i think it is to do with the Mixture of Propane / Butan, our local stations are 51p and an independent is 39 but theres is not a mix of butane / propane it is one or the other depending on what they have in stock

They could be telling the truth.  Local independants cant buy it in bulk as much as the likes of morrisons so therefore wont get the same prices.

Which is complete crap cos its the small independant suppliers with the cheapest prices.

Average of 43ppl from the small places (both in Leeds and nr Wolverhampton), the big customers like Shell and BP are charging 55-58ppl.

Hear hear !
Anyone remember corner shops ? Local, convenient, friendly ..... then they lost out to the retail giants.

So how come the independants can still sell cheaper LPG ?
It simply doesn't add up when you think about it...  Someone is telling porkies  :^o

they will charge whatever people will pay
so if they are selling at 55ppl and people are buying it, why would they cut the price?

We had an article, and various letters in responce, recently in our local paper about Tesco petrol pricing.
Seems they were charging more per litre for fuel than other Tesco's yet were on a busy road so actually would have had a higher turnover. What was highlighted was Tesco state they will match any other fuel price within 3 miles  yet even the independants were cheaper so this simply wasn't true.
My opinion is it's pure greed by big outlets and in this case the public airing simply made Tesco drop the price to the same as other stores.
They have , however, increased the price at another store which has nobody cheaper within 3 miles
The public should reply with their money and buy elsewhere but of cource that doesn't happen
