Title: Suspension What is best
Post by: stevepage3 on December 03, 2007, 07:22:13: I am looking to change my suspension and will be fitting a 2" lift my question is this.

Should I fit + 2" procomp es9000 dampers or fit -2" turrets and rear mounts or would my best option be to fit both ?

Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

Post by: karlo on December 03, 2007, 08:58:53: Don't fit -2 lowered mounts/turrets with +2 shocks as they will bottom out just fit +2 shocks with standard height mounts/turrets.

Post by: Range Rover Blues on December 03, 2007, 13:55:28: You'll want better dampers so whilst spending the money get longer dampers. I've found that a ProComp plus 2" will fit nicely on the back without bumping out, if you can get your exle to the bump stop on your new springs. At the most I think a plus 3" will fit, after that you need longer bump stops.

A plus 2" damper is only 1" longer when compressed.

What other options would anyone suggest.

I would also like advice on whether I need disclocation cones with this setup.

Post by: karlo on December 03, 2007, 17:03:05: I have +2" Britpart springs with +2" procomp es9000's with dislocation cones bought 2nd hand which have been fitted to mine for a couple of months now & i'm quite impressed even with antiroll bars removed. They do dislocate slightly the other option is to jubilee clip them in to the top spring cup.

Post by: JPJ on December 03, 2007, 19:49:29: I have got 2" Britpart yellow springs and shocks plus rear dislocation cones. Works fine. Anti roll bars removed to aid articulation. Slightly more wallowy front to back but interestingly not side to side.
Also fitted extended brake hoses as the last thing you want is to go home from pay and play with no brakes!
Larger than 2" and you need to think about corrected radius arms.

Post by: Range Rover Blues on December 03, 2007, 20:25:52: If you get the choice it might be worth the +3" shock on the back, that way you will get the springs out of the seats :wink:

Extended brake lines are a good idea, particulary the front, the back you can get by with modifying the bracket.

But yes I really rate the Pro-Comp shocks.

And go to 11" travel shock kit. Thats where my money is going when i go for my lift kit. Also to x-eng for the relocation springs :twisted:

Do it right, do it once!

Also think about cranked rear arms and new bushes.

Raised front turrets / Llama rear relocation/shock mounts

and +5" Llama4x4 springs all round

Polybushed all round + cranked arms too mind.

WORKS A TREAT!
(Wrecked +2" ProComps inside 10months on the rear)

The +11" are ok I suspose, but realistically (imho) with a Disco, you'll never ever get that much 'flex' out of the motor - all that'll happen is that the body gets 'pushed back' rather than staying level - great if you're into posing for the camera, but not that practical.

PS - Dave at Llama4x4 is a nice bloke too, does all sorts of stuff incl extended brake hoses and just started doing winch solenoids too

Post by: Disco Matt on December 04, 2007, 23:47:02: I'm not sure what the +2 variety are like, but I can recommend the standard length de Carbon shocks. I've now had them for over six months and they transformed the handling even with stock springs. If the longer versions are as good then I'd recommend them.
