Hi,
I've trawled the web for the best price for a Kenlowe fan for a 300Tdi Disco (Auto, AirCon) and the best price I can find is £108.99 +VAT.
http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DISCOVERY_1/Cooling/14_inch_Kenlowe_electric_fan_kit_suitable_for_Discovery_300TDI..html
Anybody know of a cheaper source before I commit to buy?
-
Have you tried pacet fans. IMHO there much better quality.
-
TBH that's a good price, Paddocks to the rescue again
You won't find a Pacet made to measure much cheaper, but look on flea bay, you might get a nice surprise :D

What makes you say that?

Vauxhall cavalier fans and cowlings are an almost perfect fit on a tdi radiator and shift a huge amount of air.

What makes you say that
Because I've used both and Pacets stuff packs alot more punch for the money and the plastic mouldings are of a much better standard I.E not having loads of excess moulding material left on the components.
Each size of fan has a range of motor options including water proof ones (ideal for froadin) and the whole unit is much more ridgid.

Having had twin Kenlowes on the V8, I can safely say they were crap.
They seized up and blew the fuses, and caused a hose on the top of the engine to blow.
After replacing the fans, the supplied fuses were shorted (bypassed) by water ingress, and the next time the fans seized (inevitable), the wires melted. This time a hose to the LPG Vapouriser blew.
I was lucky the car didn't catch fire.
I put the second Kenlowe kit in the bin, re-fitted the viscous fan and plastic cowling, and felt better.
Except the weight of the twin Kenlowes / resulting overheating seems to have caused / contributed to a cracked radiator.
Apart from replacing the viscous coupling, I've not had a problem with the cooling system since then.
The fuel savings were negligible and more than off-set by the Kenlowes, so I question the whole idea of electric fans really.
Especially when you consider that I've never took the Disco off-roading until last month.

I've just bought a Mondeo fan ,same curved blades as the kenlows and the same size .
After seeing Paul Humphries landy at a Bala laning weekend were he'd taken a Mondeo fan and cowl turned it 90' and trimmed a couple of mounts it fitted like a glove so I got one last night off eblag for 99p :D
When It arrives I will fit it with photos

Just had a look on Eblag and the fan is nearly identical althought the mount is different. I am putting my order on hold whilst I wait for your pictures. Good Luck.

This is next on my wish list  one question lee how will you be switching the mondeo fans on /off will you be using a temp sender or man switch :?:
-
To start with I will be using a switch as I run the car with no fan most of the time anyway I'm thinking of a three position one to give two speeds. But I am thinking of an adjustable thermostat that you tuck into on of the hoses at a later date with a manual overide :D

Any ideas for same on Disco2 TD5 ?
I know, if I wanted to do it on the cheap I shouldnt have gone for a TD5!
-
Well I've just had an email to say my fan has been picked up so it is now in the hands of the carriers so if it makes it in one piece I will be fittitng next week :D :D
-
Did you ever get it fitted??
-
I'm sure u can get a electric 14 inch fan from vehicle wiring products for 68 quid

IM JUST HAVING SOME TWIN 12" PACETS FITEDTO MY V8, NOT SUREWHAT HES GONNA CHarge me yet but i think the fan kit itseld is about £160.
had pacet on a few landys and they are good, however nowt wrong with landrover fan if its working right, and as for fuel savings thats more advertising waffle.

I spoke to an engineer at Kenlowe about my overheating whne towing and their advice was not to fit electric fans, the Viscous unit will shift far more air when push comes to shove, about twice as much as a pair of kenlowes.
So I spent £200 on a new rad and viscous unit, I'd love to have made it more economical but as I've fitted a Kenlowe to the TDI and noticed no difference I think it would never pay for itself anyway.
