Good morning all...i need some advice Yet again :lol: :lol:
i now have a tank guard, i thought it might be a wise move now that i carry the really flammable stuff in a plastic tank.......dont wanna loose any of it .
so anyway here's my little problem ( or one of them ).. the tank guard picks up on the orginal mounts for the tank mount. so i need to fit it while holding the tank in place. does that make any scence. i have to undo all 4 bolts and then put the guard in place over the top of the mounting strap and then re bolt it up.
has anyone fitted this kind of guard before.....if so how did you do it......i am on my own so have to it it by myself.....any advice would be brilliant......as for the life of me i cant see how... ( having a thick week :lol: )

i'm in the same boat about fitting a tank guard on a discovery 1, so any help is much appreciated!

I have the same guard on mine, let the tank run down as low as possible, undo the bolts and it should stay in place (mine did), though it would obviously be helpfull if you have someone to give you a hand.

run the tank almost empty then drain the rest out of the drain plug in the bottom.
the tank will now only need to support its own weight, so shouldn't go anywhere...
make sure you re-fit the drain plug before you fit the tank guard, in case it covers it up!

2 ratchet straps should support the tank while you drop the carrier :P

thanks guys :D :D your gents.....i will give it ago this weekend. i am almost on an empty tank now.
when fitting these guards have you left your original tank support/ strap on( that doesnt sound right does it :oops: )
but you now what i mean :lol: :lol:

I left mine off both times, had it on my 200 first and now on the 300, never had a problem.

Once you've done that take your trolley jack, position it under the tank, stick the guard on it (facing the right way :wink: ) and jack the baby up until it's where you want it, there is no point in doing it the hard way :wink:

THe tank guard becomes the support and protection for the tank.
I did mine on my own, but it was a bit of a wrestle!
1. run tank as dry as possible.
2. remove the 4 retaining bolts & remove the original tank support
3. slid the guard under
4. lift it up and fix two of the bolts (loosely to support one end of the guard)
5. lift tank up into place and pop the other two bolts in
6. tighten 'em up
Easy? No!
Better if you've got some help Den. As I mentioned, did mine on my own and found that it was easier to put the two bolts in at the "bumper end" then using a trolley jack, to support tank and guard, gently raise the whole lot up until you can get the bolts in at the "axle end".

Did mine also on my own a bit fiddly but ok.
Used a trolley jack as said but i think i remember wedging tank with some wood through anti roll bar brackets or something as it wanted to drop.

thanks for the advice guys..... will come in handy when we get to starting. the guard has been in my front room for a couple of weeks now and viks is getting annoyed at stubbing her toe on it :oops: :oops: :oops:

you should move it to the bedroom and she can use it as a mirror in the morning when gettign ready!!!! pmsl

well i want to say thanks to all who replied to this thread........mr ray, you were NOT wrong when you said abit of a wrestle.... :shock: :shock:
i decided that today must be the day i fitted it...i either got it right or got a heavy tank guard in the head,,,,,,luckily i can say......it was the i got it fitted option :D :D
i have been running it around town for the last few days with the orange light on saying ." you got no fuel left mister " ......i was getting a bit twitchy so decided that i might have run it enough......
so with the fuel strikes a possible in the next few days i wanted to get it fitted and fuel up again ready for the weekends play....
all done thank god. the only opps moment was almost dropping the original tank strap and realizing that the anti roll bar was still there and in the way.
i need to fit my dislocation / relocation ( not getting in to that one :lol: again)..........cones and i can then drop that roll bar altogether....i will get some pics of the shiny new guard tomorrow 8)
