Aloha! Anyone noticed a difference with their Tdi s after removing the cat?
-
yep i did on my defender 300tdi - much better low down pull it seemed.
and makes no difference for MOT - go for it
remove EGR too.
-
yeah , slightly better, did take off the egr valve too and tweek the pump. defiatly makes them more drivable (no flat spot at bottom end) . alan.....
-
no difference in fuell consumption really either . alan.....

You can buy a stainless pipe to replace the centre silencer (presumably the cat is in there?). Judging by how mine behaves after I fitted a stainless exhaust which only has the back box this is well worth doing!
-
Matt, the CAT is on the downpipe, it's that box just behind the flexy.
You can use an early 95 downpipe that just has the flexy in it, or 300TDi Defender downpipe that is just the pipe (no flexy).
The Defender one is LR Part No: ESR2297
The non-cat Disco one is LR Part No: ESR2740

Mine's pre-cat anyway AFAIK - hence my not knowing where it was!

Not unless a previous owner removed it.
I think they were standard fitment from 95/96 on, although I've been wrong plenty of times before.

yes its much better without it, got my cat pipe from D44 had to modify it slightley to mate up with a TD5 alive exhaust but that does make a hell of a difference!

I'll have to go under and have a look then - assumed it didn't have one as it always had trouble with emissions at MOT time.
