looking about for some gear options for my defender. 200tdi
i want to lower the low range and leave the high,
is there anyone out there that does a gearset?
I dont want to change the diffs or fit a expensive underdrive.

Hiya,
there is a related discussion http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=51900
Ashroft do higher ratios but I don't know if they will lower low range. Ask Dave or talk to KAM see if they will do something.
I suspect to do this you'll need to fit lower diffs and then higher H range on the transfer box to get road speed back to normal. So over a grand... same as an underdrive.
I put 4.1 crown and pinions on my 90 to get sensible low and high as it was doing 70 in second...
Or just put tiddly piddly tyres on :)

think there is a company in OZ doing just a low gear set, will continue to dig.
was thinking 109 R&Ps witha disco t case but i think it will be too low on the road

if your thinking of series diffs then i wouldnt
the R+P's aint that strong and wont take the abuse of a 3.54.1
why do you actualy want to lower the gearing :?
im running 35" on stock gearing in my 90, and it isnt that much of a difference in 1st low crawling over a stock 90 on 31's
the biggest pain really to me is low speed winching, it drives abit to fast at idle for the winch
if you really really want to do it, then you'll need to fit 4.11 or 4.75 diff R+P's around 600 quid ish to do
then fit a disco t/box
so all in all around 800-1k
is it worth the hassle :?

i was spoiled and had a 134% low range reduction on my last offroader and really miss the low box.
Have to admit its fine for most situations but like you say it the winching
before i had a 1st gear that matched the winch speed at its slowest ment i could rev at 2k to get the alternator really putting power out,
even with my 120amp alternator i struggle with an 8274,
with the weight of it be nice to crawl some section,
I will let you know if i find an option as i would prefer to go t case gears over the R&P options

ive found maxi drive do just a low gear set ive fired a coupe of mails off asking the question.
I presume that series t cases the low range is the same as any other its just there high range is lower
-
Why don't you go for an autobox?
P.S....Maxi Drive have closed there doors...I don't know who/where spares will be available. :D

get some good battery behind it, if that fails, shove a xp motor up the top housing
