It's a term used by us at work for..."it's freezing"...
Went out for a couple of hours tonight on my mountain bike, it is hellishly cold...
Even at 6pm there were signs of frost on the roads....
So get up early tomorrow, and make sure you defrost ALL your windows,
There's nothing worse than being pulled out on, by a turd who can't see through his car glass for frost!!!!!!!!!!
MINUS 4.brrrrrrrrrrr :(bigshock):
-
Thanks for the reminder .... will set the auto defrost to 7.30am ;-)

I'll get the missus to start my car when she goes to work
We use the term 'taters' for it's cold! i.e..It's 'taters' outside...
-
the term i use and im sure a few other people on here is its BALTIC.............
-
Its a bit nesh here :)
-
Of course, there's always the old favourite :
Cold enough to the freeze the balls of a brass monkey :)
Of course the brass monkey is in fact the triangular thing the cannon balls are stacked on...so it does actually make some sense ;-)
-
Yeah, nesh, taters...as in "i'm freezing my taters off !!!"
All good stuff......
Ill be scraping the ice off the Wifes car first thing, and warm it up for her...good lad I am
-
Of course, being from the Landed Gentry, one doesn't have to de-ice one's car. The staff do it for me.
As for expression of the current climate, one could say a 'tad chilly, what?'
-
Air conditioning's a bit too effective...
-
This is what you need even thinking of putting one in the garage :P :P :P
-
In my neck of the woods.......it's getting a tad "parky"...and if it's gone beyond parky, then it's become fair "nithering"!!.... :D
-
It's not too bad here. Most of the cars are frozen over. If it gets proper cold I might go indoors and get a jumper or something to put over my T-shirt.
-
Yer this isn't cold infact far from it, its just mild
-
yep its a nice temperature, been going round in a t-shirt, no probs, but you could just say its flaming freezing
-
The phrase "its a bit nipply outside", for obvious reasons!

I have absolutely no idea.....it's a term I always use aswell....know i'm confused :?

Maybe it's a reference to how well spider webs show up in frost? I agree penguins (or polar bears) would make more sense.

Well Depends on how chilly it is!

No it int. it's another myth. if you stacked cannon balls like that the first time the ship heeled over there'd be cannon balls rolling all over the gun deck.

I went to pick the wife up at Wakefield WestGate station last night (off a 10:35 train) after a business trip to London, & I'd swear there were small piles of snow on the platform in places!!
(nothing in the rest of the citythough)

I always though the phrase was from land based artillery, not from trade and war ships.

Most amusing

Just come back, after a ride on the bike & came across a road-closure.
Two separate 'Road Traffics', due to ice, on a lane that's less than a mile long.
It's fairly exposed, but has a couple of quite sunken corners, almost like hollow-ways.
Needless to say I went the long way round

The good thing about being on a bike, is that you can ride through road closures, and have a good gawp....
I was once told to turn away by a cop, when I was on my bike, I simply told him
"I don't have the energy" It worked !
Sooo many prats still on the road, even in these conditions
-
It's like Pearl Harbour outside....... There's a nasty nip in the air.

It's just cold enough here to hang a flat cap!
-
..why do nipples stick out and tails shrink in?? :?
'as cold as a witch's tit in a brass bra'

a 3 turn morning - currently refers to a cold morning where i have to crank the veg-oile fuelled disco 3 times before a sucessful start!
"pearl harbour" possibly less used due to political correctness...

I recall a national radio station getting into some trouble over that one a while ago!
