I have read in the LRO magazine that Ford are bringing out a 4x4 tranist van based around the LWB rear wheel drive one.
I wonder if Santa can bring me one for xmas? I really want one of those. Best get cracking with playing the lottery!
-
I beleive 4x4 Transits have been around a while.
-
they have but these will be with the ford / landorver technology :D
I am thinking the rock crawling setting might not be used though
-
didnt the leccy board have a batch specially made? were these all conversions?
one on ebay not so long back, went for silly money tho!
-
Your thinking of the ford transit county. It was a firm that converted transits to 4 wheeldrive they had nothing to do with ford at all.

Powys Ambulance Service (now part of an all Wales Service) used to have 4x4 transit V6 3 litre ambulances, we didn't in Shropshire, always wanted to try one out....
That was over ten years ago.
There may be a few still out there in private hands if people are interested in getting one, they have glass fibre bodywork, so they should still be ok, just make sure you take a good look underneath.

I have seen a few Tdi 4motion (4 wheel drive) VW vans around recently which look pretty smart.
The old 4x4 sherpa's were great 8)

The Sherpa V8 4x4's? I feel sure The Met used them as the transport of choice for the SPG in the late 70's/early 80's. A real wolf in sheep's clothing!

I broke one of these in January. It was a 'special' built by Quaife as a 4x4 demonstrator, Rover V8, RRC front axle, Quaife Diffs front and rear & a 6 speed sequential gearbox. Pretty much the same as the met jobbys, but much, much quicker. Still got the engine in the garage, only done 400 miles from BRAND NEW !!!!
