Breaking things like drive shafts and diffs if i put mad pattern oversized tyres on? I know it's not as fragile as a landy but i've always been cautious about excessive unneeded expense.
-
Treat it right and you should be fine 8) If you go over 31" then it's probably time to think about changing the gear ratios and beefing up at the same time.
-
I always wondered about non green oval stuff like that. i know it might be a bit stronger but if i broke a diff in a frontera or summot i wouldnt know where to look! what happens if you cant find one in your local scrappy? i suppose there is forums etc.
-
You have to have deeeeeep pockets. I had a gearbox rebuild, 580 quid later...
-
Watch the width! Plod will be only too happy to tug you if the think the rubber sticks out a bit far - ' any excuse specially this time of year.
-
The tread is nicely within the arch and the sidewall whilst close is just not visible from directly above looking vertically as stipulated. All cos of my nice Shogun rims.
-
If they are actually stronger than LR axles then you should be OK, considering that the LR axles were originally designed for 29" tyres but can be run on 35" tyres off road if tread with due respect.

Yes there are  see below
They are not that hard to do and plenty about 8)

you'll need to register ...but like mud-club it's free :D :D :D

You are gonna break stuff with bigger / more agressive tyres if you load em heavily.
Face it, its part of life......you can break stuff with stock tyres, give the drivetrain more leverage and something is gonna break.
-
On the Maverick (Terrano II) that big blues got, the rear axle is the same as used on some patrols and the front diff is a shorter pinioned version of the upgraded diff used on impreza WRX STI's so they can be regarded as bomb proof.
Only heard of one person breaking a shaft and by his own admission that was his own stupid fault, bouncy up and down with loads of wheel spin etc, it just grabbed and snapped the driveshaft clean in half. Not herd of half shafts failing. I suspect CVs might be an issue if you mod things to get more droop travel than standard on the front but thats major engineering. It is possible to put a R200 diff in the front instead of the R180 but only heard of it being done on other Nissans in the states.
Bottom line jap stuff is so over engineered compared to LR that even in the countries where Nissans/Toyotas etc are as popular as LR over here they don't go in for up rated shafts and axles.

hi bigblue ive got 33 16 on mine and never broken nowt what ever you do driving wise just be smooth :D
-
Thank you all for putting that to bed.
Right now to change the tyre order from effeminate at's to some nice special track insa turbo's!   8)
-
How big you going?
-
Marked as 31.10-50.15 which if i go for insa turbo's is about 31.5 by 9.5 on the tread. I think that Fedima extremes are a bit wider but no taller.
That way i still have room for the front's to compress without catching
-
Have been looking at Insas myself do you know what (or if) they are speed rated at?
-
Not sure but think they are q.
