time to do the head gasket but theres a choice of 4, how can i tell which one i need??? can i find out by the engine number or do i have to take it off to see how many little holes its got if its got any??
-
measure how much the pistons protrude from the engine block tell dealer and hey presto he should give you the right gasket
-
Have looked at rave disk but only have info for 300 tdi :(
It states the same gasket to be fitted unless the head, crank or pistons have been replaced.
it will have 0 - 3 holes in the gasket
Hope this helps

Ok Jess is here 8) she knows how to use this modern techy stuff
May need 42" monitor or paste them
-
If it's 200Tdi fit the 3 hole thicker gasket 8)
-
landy dealers fit the 3 hole as a matter of course
-
as ^^^^^ fit the three hole one
-
time to do the head gasket
Why is it time :?:
Are you having the head checked at the same time...., could save loads of time/expense.
Head gaskets don't usually just go on there own...., something contributes to it going
-
iv already gone an got a crack detection kit an my mate skims, ports an gas flows heads at work so he can check it with a straight edge  isnt the 3 holed 1 the safe bet being the thicker 1? i dont really wanna lose any performance because its sluggish now  looks like the dti testers coming out   thanks for the advice
-
You can see how many holes/notches the current gasket has if you look at the bit that sticks out above the lift pump (AFAICR). If in doubt fit the the 3-hole as the safe bet.
And head gaskets do fail just through age. Did mine without skimming etc and no further probs (at least - not with the gasket!), but then I didn't let it overheat.

il go an have a look now, il get a gasket set just in case anywy il prob need it one day  the previous owner hardly used it an now im jus like a kid with a big toy so it wouldnt suprise me if it had gone  cheers for that, i would of took it apart 1st otherwise

landy dealers fit the 3 hole as a matter of course
Which is reasuring, NOT!
there's a reason why 3 or 4 thicknesses are available, though I'm told the 3 hole (next to thickest) is the most common.
Perhaps this is why so many TDis do so badly on fuel economy :?
-
If the head has been skimmed then you will lose very little by fitting a 3 hole gasket.
Here's mine when I decided to change it
There was no other damage to the engine...head gas flowed & skimmed though
-
looked between the 3rd an 4th injector an it was the 1 hole gasket, its all ordered up now, thanks again :D
-
Quick warning folks.
Some "people" were selling 3-hole gaskets on flea-bay that only had one hole in them, something to do with the tooling
