Title: Is the cold making my Disco unhappy ?
Post by: Jimbo on December 21, 2007, 17:09:12
Every cold morning, without fail, my indicators are really sluggish - normally they work fine, turn left or right and the relay clicks away, but on a cold morning sometimes they work, sometimes not, but most of the time it's a half-hearted attempt.........almost like something is a bit frozen  :?

And..........the interior light should come on when you switch off the ignition and pull out the key, but on the cold mornings it takes 3 or 4 seconds before the light comes on  :?

I know we're all a bit slow on cold morning (well I am), but what could be causing the above ?

Could be a sticky relay, or considering its a later model, perhaps a bit of damp or water in one of the connector blocks

You could always seperate the block spray with wd40 and then blow the block out with some air

i`d go with a battery, cold weather puts a lot more strain on a battery, and if its on its way out, now is whan it will show..

Battery was new last year, it starts on the button, and everything else is ok...........just the indicators and interior light when it's cold  :?

Saying that.........i'm 500 miles short of the magic 100,000 so I guess the alternator might be on its way out - I'll check some voltages in daylight and see what's what (that's as long as SWMBO doesn't drag me out shopping again   )

sabotage her vehicle, then the landy has to be used.. b of course you just need to check something before you go... as if you need to order a new alternator, you best do it now before the xmas shutdown... and now that her car is unwell........

would also check earth points, and all connectors - they do fur up with ali oxide, which gves a bad contact!
