hello,
i posted recently about my hand brake seizing.
i took it apart and it started raining and going dark and getting cold so i just freed up the hand brake and left it at that i knew i would have to be carefull and take it apart and clean it properly but it seized a day before i had planned to do this
it has now seized so bad that it wont come apart, the adjuster nut is solid, i have snapped a spanner just by pushing with my hand
the only other thing that we havebeen told to do is get a big hammer and crack the drum but i dont have the money to buy a new one and even if i did all the shops are closed untill after christmas so ill miss out on the christmas off-roading :(
does any one have any sugestions?
cheers kieran

give the hand break drum a few big hits with a hammer
is the hand break stuck on ?
or wont it adjust?

Sooooo glad i changed to disc.. I had this problem and yes a quick hit with a hammer sometimes releases it.. 8)

Just try leaving it in gear until youve either fixed it or youve saved up 4 an x-brake, land rover handbrakes are useless anyway everytime I take mine offroad the handbrake comes back nackered

hand brakes stuck on and the adjuster is stuck tight
-
spray WD on the adjuster and leave to soak in, may free it up
other thing that could work is cut the cable and hammer the casing and rock the car back and forward, but will leave you with no handbrake.
cant you get the casing off though, are the 2 screws stuck?, could try with an impact driver. if you do have to smash the casing then a second hand one will only be a few quid from a breakers or off a forum member.
right pain though, mine does it every time i go off road.

hello,
good news its sorted properly now.
i disconnected cable end hit the bar with hammer, then hit the drum with hammer and chisel to force it out then with WD40 and use of foot got adjuster loose
have a good christmas
cheers kieran
