Got a new PS pump to replace the leaky one, fitted it, filled the fluid up, started the engine, topped up as needed, bled from the top of the box, BUT stil getting no power assistance.....ARGH!!!!
I've really had enough now, gonna remove the return pipe sometime and check flow, other than that i'm kind of stumped.......
Any ideas..???

is it moaning and groaning ?
you aint got any siezed ball joints have you ?
they give the fake impression as you have no pas
-
Well, it's not making any sounds at-all....
I wondered if something had 'stuck' as it'd been standing for 2 damp weeks, so jacked it up, and i can easily turn the wheels lock to lock...... so nothing sticky mechanically......
I'm ready to scrap this damn truck now, i've had enough or it......

what a coincidence, have used Disco today, power steering moaning and groaning, and oil pumping out of reservoir, does this mean power steering pump probably knackered

a random stab in the dark thing here.
On my rover 620 I was using steering fluid like it was going out of fashion but none dripped on the floor. It turned out there was a sensor in the gearbox that when I was going slwoly it made steering light and at speed made the steering heavier. The fluid leeked into the gearbox and ended up destrying the diff seals eventualy :(
Has a Disco got a sensor in the gear box which is sending a signal to be heavier on steering than it should be?
Just wondering as rover 620 / disco same parent co obviously.

The disco does not have speed related power steering. It's purely mechanical and hydraulic.

Thats exactly why i'm pulling my hair out with it.... it's only a,pump and box.....

id say that is the pressure relief in the pump

Try a pump you know works & take it from there .

Given how many pumps and boxs you have had, you've got to start looking at the only bits you havn't swapped, however insignificant.

So, i went out this morning, the first thing i did was remove the outlet from the pump to check flow, yep, got flow, but not loads....
Then i removed the return pipe that goes into the reservoir..... yep, same amount of flow there aswell....
So, reconnected everything, still no power assistance....
So, the only other pump i had was one that i changed because somone told me that the reason i was having so much trouble with leaky boxes was cos they thought the prv in the pump was at fault..... so i thought i'd fir the pump briefly, and see if that was any different.....
Well, i fitted it, started the motor, and immediately i had a lot more flow through the reservoir, and it bled itself through in no time flat..... turned the steering wheel, yep, it's now working.....
So to summarise, i have now had 3 faulty boxs, i then gave up and bought a new Adwest one, i have tried three new pumps, 2 have now proven to be faulty, and the one inbetween i gave away to someone saying that i couldn;t say for sure if it was ok....
Does anyone ever have worse luck than me with these sorts of things.....??? all i have to do now, is get back in touch with Island4x4 about this pump, although this time i'll be having a refund, and not another 'faulty' pump...LOL!!!!
-
You think it's sorted then?
-
Well, i've now used it a couple of times, only short journey;s though, and touch wood, no leaks, and fully functioning steering..... really odd though, to have as many faulty parts delivered as i have must be some sort of record......
Ironically, i'm now using the pump that was on the truck when i got it, which i only replaced cos the company that supply paddocks with recon boxes reconed it must have a faulty prv.....
Fingers crossed.....

If your gettin dodgy gear from shops I'd start taking the risk with scrapers as it sounds like all you've had is scrap repainted and sold at inflated prices :?
