Title: Oil - Difflock Evo?
Post by: Mark_Solesbury on December 28, 2007, 09:31:25
Going to change the Axle / Box / Tbox / Engine oil after new year.

Is it worth spending the extra cash on the Difflock evolution oil, that claims to be better, or just get some normal stuff from halfords etc...?

Also, Can someone just confirm the oils i need?

300tdi -
R380s Box -
Tbox -

Thanks,

 I dont think so.....I thought it was Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in the Gear Box, EP-90 in the Transfer box and diffs, and goodness knows what the 300tdi takes.
I'd check with a main dealer of haynes before changing them, as some oils eat seals over night!!!!

Ashcroft recommend MTF94 (whatever that is!) for the R380.

I believe the LT230 transfer box takes EP80 or 90, as do both axles.

yes mtf94 is much better from cold and even landrover themselves changes to this after a while, also used in rover car gearboxes.
Can be found at most motor factors, get mine from partco

i have used Difflock oils in all three of my disco's well worth the money.
It does transform the gearbox smoother, quieter and less heat.
if you do alot of wading i wouldnt bother with the diffs as it becomes expensive if you get any water contamination.
long term the Cost evens itself out as you dont need to change it so often.
i can also recomend the difflock engine drain plug. makes engine oil change a clean easy job

EP stands for extreme pressure, an 80/90 is just a multigrade EP oil.

MTF is indeed a ATF style oil optimised for manual boxs like the R380 and MT75.

300TDi should be either 10w/40 or 15w/40, in the cold I'd go 10w/40
