I am removing the intercooler and all pipe work from my disco to inspect it all, clean it out of gunge and refit it all, what is the best way to flush out the intercooler and pipes, I have heard petrol but I am worried that soaking the pipes may degrade or weaken them, also...another quick one, I am going to pipe up my turbo gauge and see what it is boosting at, it will be below the recommended 1 bar safe maximum no doubt but do you wind the bar in or out to increase boost??
Ta ;)
Oh forgot to add, also doing window regulator and heater matrix, going to be a tough weekend especially as I will have to do them all outside!!! :o

I filled my intercooler with parafin and left it on the bench for a day - pipes too. Cleaned up fine. Flushed out with loads of water.
Did not make a huge difference as the parafin that came out was virtually still clear - nice to know it is clean though!

i used parafin too all i did was laid it down flat filled it about half full and shook it a few times drained it and started again by the 4th time it was clear parafin comeing out left to dry and fitted

I used a indusrial degreaser it worked great.
I did try some heavy duty floor cleaner as i had seen how good it cleaned alluminium on another job BUT beware it almost dissolved my fins so i stopped using it - so i would say if your worried how something might react try it on the fins- personally id stick with parrafin.

I used white spirit (I had a large bottle handy) last time I did mine, lots of crap came out and it was noticeably better after wards. What ever you use make sure its 100% dry before you start it up.

to increase to boost on a turbo you need to shorten the rod from the actuator like you say wind the rod in this puts more tension on the wastegate in turn holding more pressure.

i use industrial degreaser also
i then dry it out the best i can with a air line then refit the cooler but leave to top hose of then let the turbo do the rest for me
if you can, plumb the boost guage in at the inlet manifold and leave it there perminant, there great to keep a eye on how well your turbo is living, it also give's you the proper inlet pressure for the whole intake system on the pressure side of things
not the pressure at the turbo which doesnt read true
