When you say the lever moves ok, do you mean the release lever inside the vehicle, or the lever that the cable attaches to under the bonnet? If the bonnet needs a bit of a tug to lift when it's released, then the cable needs adjusting. This is done through an aperture in the top of the slam panel. The locking bar should completely clear the hole when the cable is pulled.

I had this problem a few weeks ago as well. I just wd40'd the spring and everything around that I could find in connection with the release mechanism. After about 10 opening and closings it works properly again now.

Hi Brian,

I had this problem a few months ago after some numpty dropped the bonnet to close it. I had to remove the strike plate from outside the vehicle to get it open again. When I looked at the plate it had deformed and was catching on the spring when the release was pulled. As a temporary measure I simply re-shaped it (using a neighbours Discovery as a template) and bolted it back in. It's been fine since but I am careful to close the bonnet and then just press down on it to lock.

Hope that's helpful

I always drop my bonnet from a great height as lowering it slowly then pushing it into its last click just doesnt happen! It is the same with my rover 620 as well but not from such a height as the Disco's one.

Characteristic of the species....

min requires a special procedure, pull to resistance, yank, then tug bonnet from drivers side......

i covered it in veg oil (happened to be in my hand at the time - seemed logical) and its freed off a bit.

........but come on, how often do you need to open your bonnet???

I don't know if the Disco is the same but on the RRC the locking mechanism can get bent.  I've had to strip them down before now, but typically they don't lock rather than not open.  I'd start by checking that the peg on the bonnet is not binding in the lock, thay can be adjusted sideways/front-back if you find it is.
