Title: Drivers Side Door Problems.
Post by: Bunnie on January 04, 2008, 18:38:46
Mums had a problem with her drivers door for a while now but seems to get worse when the weather turns really cold.
The problem is the door wont shut properly when on the inside. It doesnt seem to want to catch properly?
Shes now getting rather fed up with it and wondered if A) for a few beer tokens would any one be able to come round and sort it for her (along with the electric window not working.. we think it might be the motor) or B) be able to offer some advice so we could attempt it ourselves.

She doesnt want to take it to a main dealer because of the price!

Cheers for the help
oh and its a 52 plate, 90 defender black tdi

Has she tried sraying wd40 in door latch on door & working it in?  If so a new latch is only about £25 IIRC...Electric window could be a number of things...switch (try using other switch  ;) ), connections or motor...would love to help but too far away

she reckons its def the catch so ill ring her morrow and get dad to try that on the door. it shuts fine when your out side, it just seems to bounce back when your in the cab.

I had exactly the same problem - same door , same year truck and only happened when it was cold.
I just adjusted the catch on the door frame and it has been fine since.
just slack off the 2 bolts a little and tap the catch out a little - tighten it up again and recheck it - i did this a few times till it was ok.

Sticky catch, my 04 defender suffered the same. Oil her up and work it in well and all should be fine.

Striker plate needs tweaking, could be the top hinge has worn allowing the door to droop too...
