Hi there,
Anyone know much about jimnys? I have a mate with one that has play in a wheel, (feels like wheel bearing) but I dont think it is. There is a leak from the swivel housing, around the chrome ball. You can see the ball leave the seal if you rock it (hope that makes sense)
Is the wheel bearing adjustable? he took the cover off the outside and said their is no nut to nip the bearing up. Is there a common problem with these?
HELP!!?? :D

Sounds like king pin bearings. Fairly easy to do. Easy way is to remove the hub/half shaft asone assembly, unless you feel the need to strip and regrease the whole hub/bearing assembly in which case you'll need the special tool to get the hub off. They are avail. from Bits for Vits £25 I think (going to start asking for commision!). Once you've removed the hub/half shaft the king pins come out very much like Landy ones but with no shim option. Suzuki ones are about £20 +vat I think but get one out n take it to a local bearing supplier n you should be able to get em cheaper. If you can afford it its worth doing the swivel seals at same time.

I have changed the Kingpins many times on my SJ, but always by stripping down the entire hub. I now have a weeping swivel on my Jimny and will shortly do the Kingpins can you give a quick overview of the technique of removing the entire hub without a complete strip down.
I assume its along the lines of:
1.Remove brake caliper
2. Release steering arm(s)/Panhard rod (if applicable)
3. Release rear felt/seal
4. Pull assembly forward

Been a while since I did mine but from memory the easiest way is:-
1.Remove brake caliper and disc.
2. Release steering arm(s)/Panhard rod (if applicable)
3.Undo the four bolts that hold hub assembly to the axel. Remove air locker pipes, but mark which goes where first!
4. Pull complete hub/halfshft assembly away from axel. This will be tight as its sealed using silicon gasket seal.
This will then give you access to the swivel to change the king pins.
