 how come on some discos are solid and other are root box yet there still the same age. :-k
-
Sunroofs
-
mines okay got twin sunroofs :-k time to get out the mastic
-
Sunroofs leaking, road usage, off road use, salt on the roads, cleanliness
Loads of factors
-
There are hundreds of factors..... some that spring to mind...... usage, area it grew up in, abuse and how much protector land rover spray'd on
-
or if badgersrover get his hands on em......
-
I have heard that roof rails can cause problems too, although I have them and don't seem to have much in the way of rust. I think off-road use and how well you hose it down after makes a difference - certainly I'm very careful to jetwash the underside thoroughly after spending time in mud.
-
..and why is water wet? i prefer it when its all cold and fluffy...
-
mines is a 94, no sunroof, spent most of it's life in town as a shopping trolley, never been welded.. i think it depends on the use and treatment they have had.
-
it all depends on two things 1) sun roofs and alpine windows known for leaking like a seive 2) who built it if the body that put the glass in wasnt happy or the man who sprayed the sealer underneath had a bad day its gona rust mines a m plate its had a new floor and the rest is solid i know a p reg thats almost had a compleat underside
-
mines a 96 on an n reg with not a spot of rust on it, Scottish reg and was used on a quarry with no sunroofs.
-
i dont understand the question, something about rootbox's, any clues

That's odd, mine's 96 on a P, no sunroofs, no rust, spent time in Scotland (found a car park ticket for Inverness down the front of the dash). You didn't buy yours from Hartwell LR in Bristol too by any chance?

no mine came from chippenham but it was used on the quarry's around there and has a reg number of ESN, SN stands for reg in Scotland.

Mine is a 95 M with twin sunroofs that don't leek but also dont work at the moment  and used to tow horse trailers (found in notes section of hand book kids writing saying all the pretty horses in the field.
It has done 184k ish and not a spot of rust on the chassis. It has a bit of rust around the alpine lights but nothing major and a small amount on the sills by the door but again nothing major. Covered it with hammerite and all is fine. It has had a new floor though.
I am guessing it just depends how lucky/unlucky you are and how much oil leeks from underneath and covers the chassis whilst you go along

With you dude!
-
the mot guy was amazed at the condition of my L reg 300tdi as he could only find abit of surface rust on the sills and back crossmember, mid you it could be due to the fact the previous owner
a never took it off road ( i had to free the hi/lo difflock lever )
b it was waxoyled it every 6 months

I'm fairly new to Disco ownership, but aren't Disco's double skinned. The outside is ok and doesn't rot but the inner wings n stuff are steel and they go rotten like hell
-
A lot of the outer panels are aluminium too - they do corrode but aluminium just forms an oxide which protects the metal beneath. I have a few bubbles due to this, they've not got any worse in the three years or more since I noticed them.

mine has no sunroofs and is solid as, it was owned by a local bloke whos son works at a main land rover place in bedford so had a really easy life!!
