Title: Forward facing rear TD5 seats
Post by: LAND-ROVER-PIMP on January 14, 2008, 17:32:48
Could anyone enlighten me on fitting rear forward facing seats into a 1999 T-reg 2.5 TD5, 5 door, I've been told that you can't do this in them all, something about a bracket in the head lining. Need as much info as poss please. In law has bought a 5 seater and has to convert it into a 7 seater asap, what does he look for? Need? And what problems are there ahead?

Thanks all...

First things first.  If his 5 seater has not got SLS (and he isn't going to get that fitted as well) then you can't legally get it changed to 7 seats without getting it approved by the DVLA.  All 7 seaters came with SLS as standard as this is how they were presented when they were type approved.

If all is in place then everything should be there.  You simply need to buy all of the bits and fit them in.  The brackets in the headlining are for the headrests which fold up when not in use.

If he needed a 7 seater it would have been easier to have bought one in the first place i think

Thanks for that, It's a Landrover thing, knew it wouldn't be that simple! Don't mean to appear daft but what is SLS exactly? The model of the Landrover is an S. Is it a no go??.... I take it S doesn't stand for 7... lol

There as been alot of discussion re 7 seater conversion on another forum that i use. one member has just purchased a 7 seater and whilst reading the Landrover manual noted that it gives an option for the 7 seater to have uprated rear coils instead of self levelling which seems to contradict other threads re converting self levellers to coils and 5 seats to 7. so the implication is if you uprate your coils you should be ok.
