When i go thru a deep puddle, the steering is momentarily stiff and then back to normal, is this to do with the belt/steering pump slipping with the water?
-
belt/steering... with the water?
Maybe the belts slipping, maybe too loose? But I'm no mechanic...
-
i had this on my discovery and it was the power steering belt was shot

this happens in my disco too, also my battery light comes on. maybe we should keep out the big puddles.. last one i went through i nearly washed away an escort.

exactly what happens to mine aswell also the rev counter dies for a short while an jumps back into action, new belt for me aswell by the looks of things
-
i guess its time for a new belt for me too then, im due to do my timing belt soon anyway, just do it all the same time. now wheres that puddle.??
-
Mine does the same, so think i should also be joining this bandwagon lol
-
It's quite common, a new belt might help but TBH tightening the belt up with a bottle jack is far more effective.
-
new belt and tightening might help but if you're splashing about enough to get the belts wet, I'd have thought slippage is a pretty certain side effect whether new belts or not
-
yes, but splashing is fun,
