hi iv just bought a set of 300 tdi headlights with indicators grill and the bit that goes underneath has anyone ever swapped them is it easy? iv been told its not too bad?
-
ITS A TOTal bloody nightmare mate, drilling new holes to put the new mountings in, hacking the front panel so the lights phsyically fit.
-
great sounds like fun
-
yes, its fun alright, dont get me wrong, its very doable, just loads of agro just to change the lights that are no better than the 200 type.
-
im only doing it because i prefere the way they look lol oh well all good fun :afro:
-
Contrary to Guardins comments, I have just done this.
Not too bad a job. To clear the lights in the housings I used a mallet to reshape the panel (not too much required),
Drill holes for the adjusters, grille fits straight on. Made some small brackets to fit on wings to hold under light trim and indicators fit straight in.
Job done. About 2-3 hours for first side, 1 hr second side. :D
Now looks MUCH better and lighting IS much improved. :D

i said its doable, but agro, you dont reckon thats not agro :-.
as for light ive never been able to tell the difference, must be my eyes knackered.

Nah, aggro would be 2-3days per side. How can u say that, being an engineer and making the stuff u make. All that fiddling about, making stuff fit. Must take u ages.
-
ideal evil ta very much ill use your advice with the brackets spot on :) :afro:
-
James. I'll do you some pics if you want ?
-
WE Dont fiddle about to make stuff fit, we have it machined / lasered /cut to the correct dimensions (usually)
i spose its just a finiky job im not into doing, and as far as im concerned a waste of time, buy a 300 if you want 300 lights as they dont hardly cost anything now.
-
evil that would be great if you could spot on thank you, would have liked to have got a 300 guardian but couldnt afford it so this is a cheap way of doing it im on a tight budget and im a tight [!Expletive Deleted!] lol :afro:
-
  bet id beat you in a tight [person of questionable parentage] competition! thats the one thing i am good at, aswell as fiddling about with metal of course

you pair of tight [!Expletive Deleted!] lol

Nothing wrong with saving a bit of money.
Oh, got to go, got to wring out my teabag for tomorrow.
-
James. photos as promised.
As you can see I've had some new headlamp adjusters/supports made using M8 stud with balls on the ends. These allow the headlamp to sit further forward than std, therefore not needing to reshape the backing plate too much.
Hope they help !
-
spot on thankyou i should have them soon so that will help alot cheers :nerd:
-
i`ve seen the work envolved, and found it easier to just put up with the ones i had! ..but, i have to agree the lights are poop....
..wouldn`t excite a moth, until you go out and spend £30 on a pair of bulbs (Phillips supervision +50%)
been a proffesional yorkshireman i was in shock for a few days after spending this much on a set of bulbs, but the difference is huge. really impressed, and far easier (possibly cheaper) than the 300 route.
-
ill check them out ta when i decide which truck im putting them in lol
