I may have the chance to purchase an engine for a rebuild project. Tis currently a non runner but I suspect the timing belt has jumped a few teeth. Its had a bit of a rough life but I am planning on doing a full rebuild on it to get it back to like new condition and to get used to stripping a larger engine.
What sort of money should I pay, It'll include fuel pump but I dont even know how good that is. It ran, then stopped. I told the guy scrap value, is that fair?

If ita disco 200tdi engine its worth naff all but if its a defender engine it might be worth summat
-
Disco, have been told about that turbo manifold being 'useful' ;)
-
What for???? :-k :-k
-
The manifold or me wanting a dead engine?
-
What for???? :-k :-k
It can be fashioned into a duck call to attract the lesser spotted wild mountain haggis of course
-
No a call for a veloceraptor dinosaur....................no seriously what would you want a 200tdi manifold for? unless yours is goosed!!!

Someone in this thread pointed out to me that the defender 200tdi manifolds are in demand.
I want the whole engine for a complete strip and overhaul. Mines at the wrong end of the tolerances for crankshaft endfloat.
-
But yours is a discovery engine, yes?
-
I think you're right at scrap value
-
offer the guy a shiny new penny and a packet of peanuts (dry roasted though)
-
Different engine - same theme.
I fitted a Rimmer Bros 3.5 V8 (£2k) into my old RRC. Sunk the old girl two years later - took in a minor amount of water at Minstead and knocked out the bottom end, etc.
Sold the engine on ebay for £16.

Getting rid of the old 2.5 n/a or turbo engine and fitting a Disco TDi in a defender :?
without all the re-routing of the exhaust :-o
I would say probably the value of the pump ..... not much if dont know if it works

I've heard DERV reccomended over WD. In the case of one of my pully bots had to go for 'making' a 3/8ths fit ;)
