:evil:this thing is doin my head in now
right i had black smoke coming out of the exhaust and lost abit of power now lots of white smoke and is really slow now am i right in thinking its the turbo or could it be anything else cheaper
-
just checked the top intercooler pipe and it full of oil  i take it i shouldnt drive it till i sort it out
-
How full? over a period of time the engine breather does dump loads of mucky oil sludge into the inlet. If it's got there suddenly or it's runny then you definitely have a problem.
Possible the turbo oil seals (not a good scenario as the engine will run on this oil and run away with you) or very excessive breathing.
White smoke is fuel possibly starvation, the black smoke would be the oil burning in the cylinders.
-
is the smoke white white or a bit bluey and does it smell heavily of fuel
-
hate to say this but i thought white smoke was a head gasket failure sign. black =excess deisel and blue= excess oil . ? .alan.....
-
White smoke/steam is water in combusiont (head gasket) white acrid smoke is timing, possibly fuel starvation.
-
if its white smoke smelling of fuel its not starvayion but the pump timing is retarded check pump timing paying particulr attention to pump and crank woodruff keys as these do break up if the pully is a slightly loose good luck merrick
-
now mine chucks out white smoke on start up if there is a hint of veg oil in it. it turns over till it is pure diesel.
what kind of smoke is that? ;)
sorry dont mean to steel a thread.  :police:
will be quiet now :-$
-
Unburnt oil in the exhaust side of the turbo from blown turbo shaft seals also gives white smoke.......... Thats smoke as opposed to steam.

I had a dodge injector give loads of white smoke ..
Get the engine running and slacken of the injector pipes a little one at a time if the engine note changes the injector is alright and if it dosn't then it's dodgy.
Wrap a bit of rag around the pipe and spanner to avoid a spert in the eye etc (safety first ) also try putting some injector cleaner in .
I like to try the cheapest things first if it's not obvious whats wrong :D
