Good to see our stupid gun laws in the UK that took guns from the lawful and heavy mandatory sentences for illegal gun possession are working then  :police: :^o

It is so annoying. Do I feel safer in this country now that you as a previously vetted legal FAC holder, clubmember, trained in safety and use, had secure storage of weapon and ammo have no longer got legal ownership of a handgun? I think not.

The argument ran thus.

With guns Licenced :

The police know where they are, know taht certain precautions have probobly been taken to secure them.
With the lower power, legal guns around, importing illegal guns isnt worth the hassle or effort.
At least some time was spent making sure that the owner wasnt a fruitcake (Guy at Dunblane had no Licence iirc)

So Now
The Police dont have a clue where they are
They are all illegal so you might as well get the biggest gunbs you can, there goes restricted mag size eith. Things like H&K Sub machine guns are starting to turn up and worse.
Anyone who knows the right person can get a cun, ther eis no traceability at all because well, you are a law abiding person and shouldnt have one so no need to trace them.

Made the switch to .22 for target shooting and got bored, dumped the lot. AND it was the only competitive sport we were actually good at.

But clearly if there were more handguns then there would be more handgun crime?

Everyone knows that people who have guns are unstable... why else have a gun

I've had guns and had been clay pigeon shooting since 10 and I'm very unstable

I remember handing in my 9mm Beretta and my 38 Smith & Wesson the police officer said it will make no difference what so ever... how right he was. Got nothing for the reloading kit and the guns... total farse

Did you see that the government are spending 18m on a new shooting ground for the olympics, and then another 5m to demolish it after.

I doubt that'll be a problem. As I understand it they intend to recruit the team from certain areas of London and other cities!

Baretta 9mm and a brand new SigArms P226

A P226, is a lovely gun. I was about to trade the 92 on for a 10mm Glock when the ban cam in. However getting rid of the 38 smith was the hardes. I picked it up for £15 at a gun auction, it was a super gun, great to shoot.

Does that mean that all olympic competitors in the sport will be arrested?  we should storm the competition and affect citizens arrests in protest.

£17 of our money for a sport we're not allowed to take part in, only under a Liebour government

They want to build the shooting arena in Woolwich barracks, but I would have thought that Bisley was the obvious site.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/london_2012/7200568.stm

I had a Ruger .44mag  S&W 745 .45 and a S&W 38/357, now got a Wichester 94 carbine, do miss the pistols though and the only comp that I have won since the ban is the black powder pistol.

Never fired it :( Niceley made, well balanced and I beleive FBI issue. I would have hd the S&W disabled to keep it. I have a Winchester Rifle in calgary that I had disabled rather than give up. Sentimental value etc.

Hand gun ban worked wonders for the membership numbers of a lot of clubs over the channel. Lot cheaper than it was in the UK, and free secure storage for members.
I believe that Belgium is the most popular, but know of a couple of German clubs with UK members, and I would think that there will be quite a few in France.
I'm still wondering why a black powder revolver should be exempt though, a .45 lead ball makes a hell of a mess .
Local copper handed his in, changed his permit and bought a short semi auto carbine real logic there as well.
This law was a knee jerk reaction, badly thought through, and should be repealed asap.
 Pete.

I was looking in a Gun shop while in Czech, was thinking of getting that Glock when I move. Perhaps I would set up a Police Pistol range in my back field.

Different Tangent.

When I last looked, there is no central Firearms Register. The Cops all hold local records but no database. Allegedly it will cost "millions to implement" I remeber that so bloke on the register (geeks newspaper) said that his son could do it for them for his A level project!.

Obviously this is no help re the illegal stuff, strange I was only thinking of this the other day.

Shouldn't have had an FAC, but the local police's input was over-ruled and he did have one.

Got ~£8k for my 6 guns (about 1200 of the total) and all the rest of the gear....

The  1911 colt and .455 officers engraved S&W really should have gone to a museum, but I saw the b'stards cut them up on the tele, certain 'officers' removed the tags to ensure destruction from what I managed to discover...

Wow - I did not realise how many ex-pistol shooters there were on here!

I really enjoyed my practical pistol.  Drawing from the hip, aimed shots and being timed - made my heart beat (and I never wanted to shoot anyone!)

Still miss it - still in a rage that some over paid, self righteous total (insert word that you think best suited), claiming 100's of thousands of pounds in expenses (that we pay) and still has the nerve to keep telling us at every party conference how well they did banning guns (gun crimes up you daft - use that word again!).

The thing that makes my heart rate now is watching this country go down the pan (but unfortunately it beat for the wrong reasons - so sad!).

Never mind - one day I will find the time to get to a pay and play or a laneing day.

Not that im'e bitter........................................................

Do you guys remember the Pistol Shooting weekend in the summer at Bisley Camp, Stalls, camp site, Skittle shoots, What fun and everyone armed to the teeth...

I remember leaving Bisley camp and filling the car with petrol at the petrol station with my Baretta still holstered at my side  Guy in the petrol station laughed and said you the third to day! :D

As I was leaving there was a chap filling up with his shoulder holster and gun still on. :D

All I hope for is that the sport of 'white flag waving, bending over backwards and kissing your own arse while pandering to everyone who might or might not be offended by something that has/is/or may occur' will become an Olympic event' as this country will be Gold medal winners straight away!

Camping with an AK47, bring it on! :)

I can understand wanting to blast a clay pigeon out of the sky with a 12 bore, but a sub-machine gun at a target in an enclosed area doesn't sound like any fun to me.

How would you gauge the accuracy in a competition?  Is it a competition or just "lets blast this to bits" ?  Boys n toys ????

There again,  :-k  there are times when I felt like an AK47 would be just the job for some of the lowlife that walk the streets and those that drive poxy little corsas with exausts like drainpipes.

I still prefer the tried and tested Browning .50 calibre heavy machine gun, especially if mounted on the side of a Police transit, just for those 'crowd control moments'

.5, too big, can't carry enough ammo, the .30 cal on the Saracen was a much better choice for crowd control, don't know what the current emergency reserve vehicle stock fleet carries now as they've been selling the Saracens off I suspect they'll go for 5.56/.223 Nato for compatability though.

Hummm, my eldest shot a .44 revolver aged 10, and shoot's competatively now, reaching the 1/4 finals in one national comp. last year, aged 14!
I'd rather they know about guns and gun safety, starting with the eddie the eagle type program, don't touch, tell a responsible adult etc than the usual ignorant way here.
IIRC Some kids found a loaded semi auto in a hedge (liverpool?) and were playing with it until an adult took it off them and called the police, thank god the person who dumped it had put the safety on before they dropped it....

Unfortunatley, replica guns and "model guns" are now already banned apart from a few excempt people, this happened last April as part of the VCR act.... if you have bb guns and sell em on second hand, then you are now breaking the law.....!!
