Parafin, deisel, petrol, whichever is cheapest.

Bio might do it if you leave it in as it's easier to shift afterwards
With the price of fuel these days it might be as cheap to bung degreaser in it.

whatever you use leave it in as long as practical to do it's thing.

I'd say paraffin, mainly because if you ask the price of the proper LR cleaner in a GOOD parts department, they suggest leaving it where it is and getting some 'fin.

I used white spirit as well (I had a 5 litre bottle handy) soaked it for a couple off hours, loads of crud came out. Make sure you dry it completly before running the engine.

left it pipes up and filled as far as i could with parrafin, then petrol, then hot soapy water, then cold water (hose) then left in the "workshop" (SWbo hasnt noticed the utility room looks different ) for last few weeks to dry out.

about 2 weeks with parafin, 3 days with petrol (too many people wandering around it with a cig in their gob!) and an hour or so flushing water/soap through. all in about a good handfull of poop came out!

..just need to find time/motivation/fair weather to swap it with my origonal one!

might paint it up a bit too!

i would recomend petrol or parafin as Diesel will leave a Oily residue in side causing it to pick up S*** again

Paraffin will be cheaper than petrol or diesel. Just remember to collect it, return it to the bottle, and take it to a proper disposal site.

Did mine with paraffin, got rid of all the crud quite nicely.

I think it's in the service shcedule once every blue moon.  It needs doing after a couple of year's use but as the engine gets older it needs doing more often.  i fitted a catch tank to our TDi and blanked off the EGR, that and the engine breather are what causes most of the contamination.  The only oil getting into our intercooler now is from the turbo, so if there is any I'll be worried.

I slosh petrol through them until it comes out as clean as it went in. I have an old hair dryer to blow the fumes out afterwards.

Motors will ignite petrol vapour, be careful...

Never did find the rest of Henry after the caretaker tired to hoover some up.
