what happens if you get caught running on it or red diesel? just wondering?
-
You are allowed to run up to 2500l of veg oil per year. You might have to register with that nice man from customs. Red diesel gets your car crushed
-
You cannot use red diesel on the road
You can use veg oil (up to 2500L a year) on the roads. No need to register for tax etc. Private usage will be up to 18000 miles a year - meaning no tax.
Just have a look in the bio fuel area and you will find the answers
-
Agreed, red diesel means a trip to court and no car, veg oil is ok within the limits.

Went out the other day in my mates 4.6 range and plod pulled us over with the ministry there dipping cars and vans for red derv, its not worth it, if you get caught bye bye car,and to be honest red is not that cheap anyway its 65p a litre where I live so you might as well run on veggie and keep it legal.......Ive been driving artics for ten years and ive been dipped a few times for red, they even asked me whether the cigarettes I was smoking were duty frees (they werent)but I have never seen em dipping cars so they must be clamping down.

Heard of a few spot checks of late, you may be right.
Also red stains fuel system components, so even if you've used it all there may still be traces in fuel filters, tanks, sedimenters etc.

yeah, apparently they can still tell after youve put six tankfuls of white in

Plymouth Bio Fuels (http://www.implosionresearch.com/cir2/) is the place for veg oil. 64.9ppl & supplied in 20Ltr drums (IIRC it's a £4 deposit on each drums) :afro:
Don't even go Red diesel!
-
And watch out for people around you with red diesel when you have asked them to fill up all the machines on site to use up the red diesel and they think you also mean the vans! Yes, It has happened to me and they put about 5litres in. Wont be doing that mistake again. will make sure keys for vans are on me so they cant get the fuel caps off!!!
Go veg oil. even after 2500L of tax free you just declare you have gone over and pay the duty on it if needs be.
I have been told I need to keep all reciepts though of the veg oil I buy to prove I havent used more than 2500L. Anyone know if this is true?

It's probably wise. Thing is, both you and they would have trouble proving that those are all your receipts though. I suspect they'd only bother to investigate cases of people obviously making and selling biodiesel as it would be time consuming and costly to chase individuals who are only producing it for personal use.

I am keeping a chart of how much I buy/ spend/ saved against diesel / total saving and count down to when I break even with the kit. Mainly for me really as I am interested in exactly how much I do save.

I know a guy called John who was running a van on red when they caught him they made him pay the back tax on the fuel based on 12000 miles a year @25 miles to the gallon for the time he'ed owed the van ...
7 years
3360 gallons
That was the fine then they squashed the van
-
cheers guys, i didnt know you could have your car crushed for using red...
think i might stick to normal and a bit of veg :D

Yes, you do need to keep records of your veg use, just in case HMRC ask to see them, although as mentioned by others, you do not need to register with HMRC if you are going to use less that 2,500 litres per year
-
With Veg oil, the onus is on you to prove what you are or more to the point, what you aren't using. If you keep receipts and they roughly match the mileage that you do then you are ok (don't forget, mileage is recorded on the MOT ticket) But if the figures don't add up and you can't explain then it will cost you plenty. HMRC will assume everything is owed to them, it is up to you to prove it isn't

what do we need to run on veg oil
-
hi all, on ebay you can get a pre heater for around £40, they go in your fuel pipe just before the diesal pump to thin it out, and i got told in winter run on 60/40 and in summer run 80/20, thats just what i got told, i ran mine on 60/40 and it was fine, but stank like a local chippy, but i was putting new oil in ? :-k strange lol
-
Use a tigerloop, on ebay about £20 no need for a return to any tank, and place it next to the pump, and use a water heater (for the cold veg oil to the pump) not a electric one, or even better a Peugeot pre heated filter housing and change the filter every couple of months, it will take strain off the fuel pump, then all you need is a fuel valve to change from diesel to oil, i have all the bits to do it at home, but its way down the list at the moment ,
Look in LRM it's featured this month, but not with the tigerloop, join www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum they have a vast amount of knowledge...

Nothing...
Run 50/50 derv/veg oil in the winter & upto 100% veg in the summer (Depends on outside temperature).
You will have to change the fuel filter after the first few thousand miles then change as per service schedule. :afro:
