Apparently I have a light sensor on my dashboard, just behind the windscreen. Does anyone know what it controls?

Auto dipping mirror? dashboard lighting? radio backlight?
try covering it up and see what happens :D

It's for the climate control :)

as said its for the climate control. its detects which side of the vehicle has the sun on it and compensates for it .

Ohhhh... fancy!
My climate control is the wife... who sits in the passanger seat and detects that her feet are freezing... despite the rubber on the soles of my shoes melting in the furnace of the footwell with the heating set to her comfortable setting! :x

If you have climate control then you can set hers to be warmer than yours. Drivers side takes preference and the passenger side can be 5 degrees warmer/colder than the driver side
