On my way home tonight I was sitting in standing traffic because of a crash up ahead when I heard a screech then felt the Bang
A Lady in a vauxhall had been distracted by smoke coming from another car (lady driver on a hill frying the clutch) and had not seen me stop apparently ,
the fact that she hadn't seen me stop because I hadn't moved for ten minuits confused me a little.
Anyway the score is this
vauxhall-0
Landrover- Bumper, valance, headlight, bonet, grill, slam panel, indicator, wing and rad  (age of car tells me right off)
I win :afro:
Now we swapped details but there is nothing wrong with my car at all what do you think I should do, tell them to sort out their own car or tell my insurance?
-
It could well have bent the chassis, so i'd try and get a new galv. one out of them.
-
You should tell your insurance anyway - they might be a bit awkward if you don't, especially if her insurers contact them regarding the collision. Explain that there's no damage to your vehicle but you thought they'd appreciate being kept informed. You may find they want it checked professionally just to make sure!

Good advice :P

As the Disco is lifted and on big rubber also due to the fact I have a big tow hitch fitted all it did was dive under the back of my car .
The electric plugs at each side of the hitch are still intact it didn't even bend the plates they are fixed on .
I just can't beleve the damage to the Vauxhall it barely scraped the mud off mine
-
get the hitch bolts checked as a hard impack can damage them and you dont wont it flying off in a recovery situation
also put aclaim in for touching up the paint on the tow hitch
-
I ran in the the rear of an audi RS4 estate few years ago, my disco was lifted 2" , winch on front, hit the audi about 45 MPH, not a scratch on mine, £8700 quids worth of damage to the audi. opps, My insurance still came to look at my car thou, make that call,
-
Be careful saying theres no damage just yet, i had someone pull out on me totally wrote off their peugeot, dented the rangie bonnet and cracked the indicator.. no major probs, 6 hours later my neck had seized almost solid and i was in bits for well over a week, apparently the delay is common once bruising etc sets in. report it to your insurers as soon as, its not your fault.
Cheers Steve
-
make sure you dont have any undeclared mods visible when they look at your motor!
-
Totally agree with reporting it - CYA but I don't believe in trying to claim if there's nothing to claim for.
We all moan about high premiums; unjustified claims are one reason for them.
At least your not hurt.
There are still two wheel nuts for your spare wheel if you want them Lee; one week left.

Insurance, and be prepared to answer the solicitors when they phone to see if you've been injured, I'm glad I went that way, currently having Chiropractic treatment for whip-lash, apparent injury at time of incident-NONE, 2-3 weeks later and it was hurting, 5 month's later its starting to get better!
-
Hi All
Well you were right about the whip lash though your not allowed to call it that anymore [-Xyou have to call it over extention injury
both flanks ,shoulders and Neck acheing so I'm on anti flam and pain meds :->
Had an injury thats not your fault etc etc etc....
Told the insurers monday they'er getting back to me soon....
-
I had a lady run into the back of a postie escort van at 30mph when I was in a line of traffic and not moved outside a school a few years back. Royal Mail made a claim but I didnt go to the doctors or anything. Wish I did as a few years on my back gets twinges now and again. I can't go and see the doctor as they only last a few minutes and then dont come back for a random xxxx amount of time. If I called the doctor when I had the twinges I very much doubt the surgery would even answer the phone by the time the twinges were still there, going by the amount of surgeries I have called recently for an HGV medical.
-
Well I told the insurance and they say to change the tow plate and brackets as they wouldn't insure me to tow anything if I didn't and also the drop plate nolonger fits the reciever so that has to be changed and the back door is clipping the bumper so thats going too...
All the above is being payed for by the other insurers along with a car for while mines being worked on ,I have also been told that as the car is so old and it might not easy to find new genuine parts to replace the old ones that I can have non OEM replacements to the same value as long as I use a recognised fitter to put them on so I am looking for a bumper and tow bar /plate and drop plate . Ideas anyone???
-
Was it a dixon bate tow bar you had on your landy? ;)
look in your yellow pages for fitters. As for the bumper. You can adjust the height of it on the 2 mounting bolts. I suspect it just got pushed up.
-
Yes it was a db tow hitch :(
So yes I'm having a new one :D
as for the fitter the landy garage behind where I work have been ok'ed to do the work .
I'm thinking now about a tank guard with a detachable tow bar any ideas who does them and how much.
-
I know scorpion racing do.
I dont like the idea of a detachable tow bar like scorpion racings one as it just doesnt look substantial enough for my liking, although I do like the idea of a tank guard!!
-
Something like this but cheaper(this one 250 + vat)

Well it's been 7 weeks since the crash and I am in agony the whip lash that started at the top of my back and ribs has now worked it's way down to my old injury in the middle/bottom of my back, I've been on light duties at work for most of the time since the crash but it's not helping (ended up on the floor twice with the first aiders threatening hospital so I'm confined to my office.).
I had to do a rain check on the first regional meet in North Wales because of the pain. Now the Doc has gone from Codydramol to Diazapan to tramadol  so I am now not allowed to drive :( so I am layed up on the sofa bored .
I have a shed full of bits to fit to the Disco and can't even walk as far as the shed without a lie down.
I have decided to go for the disco parts rear bumper and a Dixon bate tow hitch thinking behind it being if I later change to a removable tank guard/tow hitch combo the resale price of the db hitch will be better :)
And now I have to wait until the 17 April to see the insurers Doctor about the claim
And still no movement on the repairs to the car...
-
It could well have bent the chassis, so i'd try and get a new galv. one out of them.
And we wonder why our premiums go up every year
Labour costs would render it a write off
-
I see Loyal Duke's has been hit agian. If people can't see something as big as a Disco they shouldn't be on the road
As for ours, I think it's falen down a hole at the bodyshop, I'll have to go put a rocket under them, I've forgotten what it looked like
-
If people can't see something as big as a Disco they shouldn't be on the road
I think mine's invisible. In the past month I've lost count of the number of lemmings (when they behave like this, you can't call them pedestrians) who have sauntered out in front of it. Likewise I have my lights on in anything less than perfect sunny conditions, as I suspect a lot of motorists have trouble picking it out against the road surface. That's the charitable theory for their attempts to overtake while I'm coming towards them anyway.
Mind you, the last pair that did it also wandered in front of a bus, which responded with a good thundering blast of air horns! Too much to hope it might wake them up a bit, the reaction seemed to be "How dare you complain about my attempting to get run over"...
Hope you get well soon Lee - you only need to worry if they start prescribing Vicoden as used by House

New series, funny as ever
-
Well the inspector for the insurance has been round today Eight weeks after the accident and agrees with changing the bumper ,tow bracket and tow hitch. :D
I'm going for an all steel bumper and a standard tow bracket with a dixon bate drop hitch as all but the bumper will go when I can afford a tank guard. :D
Now I just have the medical to sort on the 17th.
-
Good luck with it all - have you considered osteopathy to sort out the whiplash? Quite "easy" to sort but left to linger, can take a long time for all the symptoms to fully dissapear. Find your local one www.osteopathy.org.uk (http://www.osteopathy.org.uk) here, and you should be able to claim the cost of treatment back from the other person's insurance.
-
sorry to interupt but quick question about the osteopathy treatment. having sustained whiplash in my accent over 18 months ago. ive had physo on it but still get problems in my lower back, would i be able to ring the solisitors and see if i could get this treatment now? im currently waiting on a court date to decided liability.
thank you
and get better soon lee
-
You too Bunnie :D
by the way is osteopathy the one where they klick your joints??
If it is then I may give it a miss, last time I had it the lady tried to klick my neck and it was so tensed up she just span me off the table
-
Bunnie, Thats a tough one as you would have to prove that the problems you are suffering with now are a direct link to what happened previously.
Lee Celtic - yes, manipulation CAN be involved, but not necessarily, I would find another osteo if thats how the last treated you, sounds horrible!! We are not all savage brutes you know!
-
Well it's all sorted now
Almost 5 months later the lady who hit me has finally told her insurance that she hit me...
My insurers have have now waved my excess and the car is booked in for the work to be done.
And the "have you had an accident thats not your fault" people have payed out £1600
so some more toys and a Holiday I think (to replace the two I missed) :D
Result... However if I had a choice I think I would rather have not had the pain..... :(
Thanks for all the advice and well wishes
This clubs great
-
Congrats mate.
