Title: Rubbish headlights
Post by: andygod on February 03, 2008, 20:49:26
Does anybody have any idea how to fit relays behind my headlights. I've
fitted 100w bulbs and I've been told that they could melt the headlight
switch on the indicator stalk because of the extra current. Do I fit a
relay behind each headlight, what wires do I connect to & any other
info I need.

Many thanks

The Philips Vision Plus bulbs are a legal 55w and are very bright, having the added advantage of not melting your wiring. I think you can get them from www.powerbulbs.co.uk

Agree with thrasher... not worth been held responsible when someone crashes into you because you blinded them when you came round the corner...

Philips supervison are in mine and made a Huuuuuuuuge difference, most car accessory shops sell them  :police:

I've been told that fitting relays improves things regardless of the bulbs used.

It does, but the 100 isn't legal for road use  :?

Your insurance could well be void if you have an accident at night.

Hello Andy, it's a similar principle as spot light wiring, just you use the power lead from the switch to turn the relay on, I suppose you could use 2 relays, one to run the main beam on both sides, and the other to run the high beam on both sides, it will be worth while using heavy duty wiring on both of these as well.

There are a few threads on this forum regarding the wiring of spot lights, just swap either the live feed on the diagrams (or switched power) and bob's your uncle. Paddocks do relay kit's for abour £5, either buy 2 of these or just buy the relays and cabling.

Best of luck matey

Andy, they make a difference and its nhot too hard to do. If you want i can give you the wiring diagrams I made up for mine and pics. In fact a look at

http://www.evilgoat.org/pics/rewire/

Gives the pics.

Relay feeds picked up at headlamps, each relay is fused and ffeed a pair of lamps.
Fog wire can be plucked out the loom (as can all of them if you are brave) right where my relays are.

Its worth over-rating the whole system just a little. Heavier wire causes less voltage drop and gives you more headroom for higher powered bulbs.

Thanks to those who gave me advice on this post and by p.m. I think I have a good idea of what to do now.
